Day in a life of a Career Carrier: day 53

Yesterday was ridiculous: even though I told the supervisor of my tire chain situation on Saturday, I was eventually told on Monday to take a different vehicle.

Mail was late. Parcels were late. I had the foresight to not load my vehicle because I knew I would be told to take a different vehicle. Of the vehicles I was told to take didn’t have chains and others I couldn’t find the key. I finally got one but I needed to fuel up. Towards the end of my delivery (out of order due to snowy roads) I lost one of the chains. I had to drive back with only one chain and the snow was coming down heavy. I refused to go back out to deliver so I was told to case mail.

After 10 hours, I am heading back home. The light rail was late. When I got to the transit center, the one bus I could take was not operating. I had to walk home: took two hours to get home. I felt for those that had further to go.

I woke up to finding even more reduced bus options. I would have to walk to the transit station to catch the link rail. No thanks! I am calling out.

I was also worried that I would be sent out with vehicle with out chains: my route needs chains. A supervisor said that vehicle maintenance had no more chains so I didn’t feel that I would have what I needed to remain safe.

I did find that I strained a groin muscle but I still got out to clear my driveway, sidewalk and storm drains, in my four corners. I also cleared out some curbs to help drain the water... I could have done more but it seems what I did helped to drain out the water in the intersection.

To take care of myself... I took a Epsom salt bath.
