Fun with my new art toy

Recently I got my long-awaited graphit powder and started experimenting with it. It's fun, like going back to finger paints. Sadly, my kindergarden time was before finger paints were in vogue, so I missed that when I was a kid. Well, sometimes life gives you a second chance ( Read more... )

What lovely, soft images. It seems to make their faces stand out more. I've never seen a bull with such an angelic look on his face.

To be honest, he is not a shining example of bovine masculinity. He looks more like an oxen. At one point I even removed his testicles, but he is too shortleggged for an oxen, so I added them on again.

Ah, if only it could be so simple in real life.

What a stunning effect! I'd love to try this, I love the dreamy, misty quality - so much softer than working with pastels. I hope you don't mind but I've set your cows as my desktop - so calming :)

Hey, *you* have no reason to be jealous, being so very talented yourself, not to mention skilled and versatile! :-)

Those all look excellent. I'd like to try this, but I'm sure I'd make a mess.

Making a mess is part of the fun. Use a big plastic bag as a working surface and give it a go!

By the way, I always meant to ask you, you are drawing the elves in your icons yourself, don't you? I mean the one with analphabethic Glorfindel, or the Noldorin Invasion. Apart from your icons, do you have a place where I can see more of your artwork?

Unfortunately, no, those aren't my drawings. I wish they were, but as it stands, they're screencaps from an anime series called 'Record of the Lodoss War'. My own artwork is much more... uh... casual. I do almost exclusively quick sketches, because I have no patience for anything else.

I see Claudio didn't tell you his drawings are on his web site (unless they got lost after the moving to a different server). I hope he will not mind that I told you, or maybe he told you somewhere else already. And of course you have seen the cover of Gondolin Opera with his Glorfindel and Erestor? Or Awesome cd cover he did? Gondolin cover is still on-line (two - another has been done by Nellas).

Really, really lovely and good. I like the somewhat "foggy" atmosphere of the drawings ("Bovines in the Mist"? ;)), and of course, I am as impressed with your skills as always. I wish I could draw with such perfection!

'Cows in the Mist' is indeed the title that came to my mind while working on them. :-)
The trick is, it even looks good when it's less then perfect. Hard lines are so much more unforgiving.
