I really like your vision of Ecthelion! #1 great. I am in love:) #2 I agree that it looks a bit generic, but nonetheless very beautiful. Love the expression. #3 mmm... you are right, too girly #4 is very good #5 now I am really in love. No kidding:) #6 is looking good so far, I like the features here.
Thanks again for your comment! :-) I have read the 'Children of Hurin, but as I am not as familiar with wide parts of the Silmarillion and HoME as with LotR, I have to reread it to remember the details. Why do you ask?
Why do you ask? Oh, just in case if you get some inspiration for your Tolkien-based art from it. I started to read it, but I feel, that I should re-read Silmarillion first, I don't remember much of it...
These are great. I love them all, probably my favorite is the "warrior" one--guess because of the action. Number 5 for some reason looks very Noldor to me--the eyes in particular ("E's passport photo"! shame on you--just a very straight-on shot). Make me want to write something about Ecthelion.
>Make me want to write something about Ecthelion.<
Good! :-)
I'm glad #5 looks Noldorin to you. It's probably the combination of dark hair and lighter eyes with a severe facial expression that did it. Although I'm not sure if I don't prefer darker eyes on him like in #1.
My pleasure to look and comment! Gorgeous work. I think the light eyes combined with the dark hair give him that look that is used to describe Feanor (who always seems a model for the Noldor look for me) in The Silmarillion of "his eyes piercingly bright and his hair raven-dark," also gives a bit of the feeling the Noldor newly arrived in Beleriand with the the light of Aman not yet dimmed in their eyes. Lovely, lovely work. Very exciting. I love your Glorfindel sketches too, just got stuck commenting on this page.
All looks nice, but #4 i #5 are my favourite. (And I can't see where teh eye on #4 is off, but you know I'm the off features specialist ;) ). #2 seems a bit too wide for me, especially the top of his head, but maybe that's the way it should look like. If #2 was named "Fingon the Valiant" I wouldn't grumble at all :D Slightly different than my vision, but that was first thing coming to my and while looking at him
