I don't know if I've talked much about the incredible blessing my community has been to us for the last 3 months since Jonah's crisis. In general, this community has been awesome to us pretty much from the moment we unloaded the van. Just a couple of weeks after we moved here, Duane was waiting in line to vote at our (then) municipal shed and ( Read more... )

I'm so glad you've found such a wonderful community for your own wonderful family to share in the give and take.

I wish I knew what made one community like yours and what made it, well, unlike yours.

My sister's little housing development (in suburbia) did so much when she became ill. One of the neighbors, for example, watched my nephews daily for months on end. The community did a fundraiser and raised thousands of dollar and even paid for housecleaning services. The daycare lowered their rates so they were only paying for one child instead of two. Her family had so much food sent to them that they didn't have to cook for a long time, too. It was incredible.

In my community, I am familiar with one set of neighbors and couldn't even tell you the names of the other two in our immediate vicinity.

I'm glad you are in such a great community. It is wonderful that Jonah is living in a place where he isn't made to feel all that different and people try to find a way that he won't be limited. They accept him as he is and that has to be just amazing for him and his ability to feel loved and safe by people outside of his family.

I admit, that's why I live here. I love the small town feel where my clients still bring me fresh eggs or corn sometimes. The local Chick Fil A and McDonalds do fundraisers for members of the community in need and we all try to go and spend money so more will go to the person who needs it.
