Memories: Joliet, IL

I was talking with a coworker today, and I started talking about memories I had as a kid. Most of the earliest memories I have are from the time my family lived in Joliet, IL. I don't know exactly when we were there, but I remember that I was 6 when we moved to Tennessee in 1985, so I'd guess we were there from when I was about 2 or 3 until I was ( Read more... )

What a great read for a snow-bound Saturday morning!! I giggled all the way through. You have some terrific memories...and a good recall of many things I have forgotten about! Danny Cavanaugh...I wouldn't have gotten his name at all if you hadn't given me Danny C. I do not remember the bee sting. I hope I was helpful to you at that time!! I do remember the orange truck, but not a blue one. I thought we only had one. I had forgotten about the bike training on the hillside ( ... )

I do remember Chad and Craig, but I don't have specific memories of time spent with them until we'd moved away and went back to visit them.

The DQ treat was called the Mr. Misty.

I do remember the home we stayed in after school, but I had no idea where that was at. It was actually where I first saw a Firefox train set, which if you will recall was the first train set you and Dad got for me; probably because I begged you for it. I remember developing an extreme distaste for mayonnaise at that house, which I didn't get over until sometime in my teens.

I don't remember doing the play or the guitar duel; I just remember the home movies of them.

I think perhaps Dad drove the blue Sapporo to work, and I had the white Monte Carlo. Surprised you remembered that car. I had to chuckle out loud about the memory of Corbin hitting his face when he unbuckled his seat belt...seems I remember that also, now that you bring it up. The blue Sapporo is the car we got in Louisiana while Dad was doing his stint with Olin, working 18 hour days, 7 days a week. We took a week's vacation through Texas...you were about 18 months old, I think. We got rear-ended, but everybody was okay. So, yeah, I think that would have been our second vehicle, but it was more or less Dad's work car. I'll keep adding things as they come to mind...this is a great blog (at least for me!!). I might plug it on my blog, with your permission.

I remember the Sapporo, but my first memories of it are from Tennessee. I'll probably start writing down TN memories sometime soon, but one strong memory is of Dad driving us to school in the Sapporo, and running out of gas not quite halfway there, and Corbin and I having to walk home so you could take us to school and get Dad some gas.

Feel free to plug it, if you like.
