Last night, after I got off work, I hit a dog. She ran across the road right into the path of my car. Fortunately I had already seen her and had started slowing down, so it was only a light tap. The dog was fine

I think a dog would be good for you. I remember how close you were to your other dog. :[ You seemed happier. There are low/no cost vets you can take her to to get her checked out. Does she get along with your cats?

She gets along wonderfully with other animals, as well as people. The question is, what do my cats think of her? I'll have to pry them out of the innards of my box spring to find out!

oh hahahaha i nearly choked reading that :) They've been around other dogs before and were just fine. It's worth a shot. And if all else fails, if she's that great a dog i'm sure finding a home for her won't be to hard.

Most vets, if you mention it is a stray, will not charge you all that much to at least look it over. Call around and ask for a general checkup. Might cost you a 20 spot or something, might be worth it, yo.
