JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR! Review of Brussels

Feb 26, 2010 22:56

Really, an ass has been born. And what an ass! But I'm skipping ahead with my story.

All good stories starts with a beginning, a the beginning of this story starts at Thursday, the 24th of Februay. And to be even more precise: it starts in Bruxelles-Midi at 8.15

Bruxelles-Midi is our international railway-station and the place where I would meet up with the wonderful houseofmissr :)

Miss r was announced to arrive at exactly 11h05, I was at the station at 8h15

the exact reason as why I was there three hours early, is a tale that involves epic fail clock-reading, time-management and is so utterly boring that I'm going to skip that part of the story ;)
so, me having to wait someplace for three hours: the inevitable happend: I went shopping!

By the time that miss r finally did arrive, I was 3 coffees, 1 latte, 1 glass of orange juice, 1 hat, 1 Fossil bracelet and 1 box of Corné chocolates richer. And only a strong, self-inducted regime ensured the fact that I also wasn't a couple of Yves Rocher products, a purse and glasses richer!

an: I was very happy to see that miss was wearing a skirt too. In some funny non matching way, we matched!
Then, we journeyed out to our hotel, where we could dump part of our luggage? We were happy to know that our room was already available, so up we went to our room on the 7th floor.

Ping! Insert keycard in elevator! Ping! Press 7! Ping! Go up! Ping! Elevator stops at 5th floor.

miss r & Dailanche: O_O
miss r: Why did the elevator stop at the 5th floor?
Dailanche: O_O
miss r inserts keycard again and presses 7 again.

Nothing

miss r: what are we doing wrong?
Dailanche: Oh God! The elevator hates us!
miss r inserts keycard again and presses 7 again

Nothing.

miss r & Dailanche; >.<
So, we leave the nasty elevator behind and decide to take another elevator. Of course, our nasty elevator wouldn't be a nasty poophead, if he woudln't present himself as the only elevator willing to take us somewhere.

Realising that we have no other options left, we step inside again and let the nasty elevator take us to the only place he's willing to: downstairs. There, we quickly hop into an elevator who's doors are open and try our luck again.

Ping!Insert key card! Ping! Press 7! Ping! Giving a little prayer! Ping! Going up! Ping! Murmuring comforting words! Ping! the elevator opens his doors at thet 7th floor! Success at last!

After this adventure, we are really tempted to take a little nap to calm our nerves but  houseofmissr and Laura where already heading our way, so we only had time to explore the room a bit and fumble around with a hair-straightener. There was a brief moment of panic when I thought there wasn't a toilet in the bathroom, after which a short but mad toilet-search ensued (we even went looking on the hallway!) but it turned out that our toilet was just sneakily hidden behind a simple looking door.

We were just admiring our recliner in the room, where we already could envision male beauty when the other lovely ladies of our party arrived. Which meant going back downstairs.

With the elevator.

miss r & Dailanche: Ö
Luckily though, nothing eventful happened this time :)

Our party, now consisting of miss r, Laura, Wien and myself then went on an adventurous sight-seeing trip through Brussels where we made a detour to a Turkish Quarter where Wien was absolutely sure we would be able to find a nice place to eat something.

One hour later, we pass our hotel again and enter a shopping mall (situated almost exactly next to our hotel) to have a nice lunch in the "Hollywood Canteen" and indeed, as it's name suggests, I enjoy a lovely meal in the company of shining stars: my own private VIP-party!

So, after these necessary refreshments, we journeyed out again to Forest National, the place where it was all about to happen! We informed ourselves about the easiest way to get to the venue and decided to go by underground and bus.

Our party arrives at the platform where, very conveniently, the underground we need to take, is just on our platform.

miss r & Laura: we have to buy our tickets
Dailanche: O_O
Wien
Laura: If you guys wait here, I'll quickly go buy us the tickets.
miss r: Oh thank you. How much is it, you think?
Dailanche: O_O Or we could just hop on the underground without tickets just like everybody else?
miss r: What?!
Laura: What?!
Wien: What? What? (genuinely confused, as she was just coming back from LaLaLa-land)
Dailanche : Of course, we have to buy tickets! I can't believe someone suggested to hop on without a ticket.
2 undergrounds later, Laura returns with the tickets and we hop on! Legally :)

And from the underground we hop on further onto a bus with the most ridiculous seats that I've ever seen. Aside from the vomitting yellow - puke brown colour, the size of the seats on the left-side of the bus was puzzling. It was too big for one person but too small for two persons.

Empirically tested by miss r and myself
and then, after one bus nap later, we finally arrive at the venue!!

Excitement! Butterflies! Nerves! Buzz! Fuzz!

...

Rain

...

Excitement! Butterflies! Nerves! Umbrellas!

Indeed, all day, it had been an excellent weather day in Brussels until the moment we arrived at the venue. So, umbrella in hand, we're getting herded like a cattle and dumped in some sort of section that looks like a pit. Standing in the pit, we have an excellent view of the advertising board of a supermarket and some underground parking.

Very industrial. It almost made me feel like I had been missing out by not having camped.

But despite the nice company, I do start to worry a bit. It seems that we're one of the last people to have arrived as no other cattle is being herded inside our section and both Wien and miss r received text messages from other girls, saying that they were already inside!

Turns out that my fears were unjustified as we ended up with very good seats! I guess that we were on the 5th or 6th row!

I wish that I could describe the waiting atmosphere in the venue but I don't think I will find the right words to do it justice. The whole place was just pleasantly buzzing, the air thick with excitement and anticipation. Before the concert really starts, everyone has the time to venture around a bit, get a snack, purchase some merchandise and just meet up with everyone you know!

I did it all: I walked around a bit, got a snack, got a flashing button with LED display and a t-shirt and was able to meet a lot of people, whom I only knew through the internet. Even without, having seen the concert yet, for me the day had already been a success!

Then, two dj's came on stage and fuelled the fire even more! They got the entire place shaking and by the time it was 8 o'clock, it felt like the venue would explode with all the screaming, and shouting, and flashing!

I felt it ripple through me and I got goosebumps just by being wrapped up inside this cocoon of the expectations and rising tension.

8.15 the lights go out. The screaming reaches a new decibel and people are clapping and stamping with their feet. The noise is overwhelming but I hardly hear it as the curtain is lifted and we can see some sort of metal egg on stage. Smoke is coming out of the egg and a lightshow starts.

The egg slowly "breaks" open

I hold my breath

I can see the silhouettes of Tom and Georg.

I'm almost dizzy because I'm still holding my breath.

The top of the egg is completely lifted now and we can see Gustav, drumming the opening of "Noise", accompanied by Tom and Georg.

A door on the lower part of the egg is being created and more smoke comes out of the egg.

Bill steps out of the egg, looking out of this world and I can't help but scream, a feeling of complete happiness overtaking me as I stare in awe in wonder at this perfection, called Bill Kaulitz. For one fleeting second, he did seem godlike and not complete human for no human can be that perfect. That exact moment, when he stepped out of the egg, I will never forget.

There's so much more to tell but I'll end with the part of the concert that has touched me most and almost got me crying.

At the beginning of the show, everyone disappeared from stage so that Bill could change costumes and they played a video on the screens while the music from World Behind My Wall was being played in the background. It was a sequence with unseen footages of them from now and then. It started with a pic of a sleeping Tom and then it went over into pics of them from during their Develish years.

You just felt he whole venue becoming nostalgic while watching elfin Bill and Tom, serious looking Gustav and curly locked Georg. They showed the footage of a young band, to become Tokio Hotel shortly after this footage, having some typical boys-fun at the table and then it changed into Tokio Hotel as we know them today. Grown up Tom, Bill, Georg and Gustav still having typical boys-fun at the table.

WBMW music just gave the right feel and we were all feeling nostalgic and teary-eyed when the boys came on stage again. During the video, the set had been changed a bit to a more intimate setting. The platform, containing Gustav had been lowered and three barstools were on stage. It was time for the acoustic versions of Humanoid and Phantomrider.

I must say that Bill never looked so king-like, so pure mascalin, so worth humping while sitting on his stool during the acoustic part. Seated broad and wide on his stool, legs wide, shoulders broad and flanked or even better yet, supported, by Tom and Georg, he looked nothing short but beautiful.

I was still feeling the affects of the heartfelt video and it really struck me how mature and grown-up they have become. I think we all felt it and saw it that way because although the acoustic part is the most quiet part of the concert, the whole arena was captivated by them. It was also the moment that all of them: Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav thanked the fans and clapped for us.

I feel like I already wrote half a book about the concert and I haven't even mentioned all fabulous Tom & Georg moments, the twins dynamics, the Gustav wave, the pyro-elements, Tom his solo or the fabulous camera man who made amazing close ups of Bill's ass!!

It really was pure enjoyment from beginning to the end but honestly, for me personally, the enjoyment lied in all the small details. Like how, it was clear that they are basically still the same eager boys from during their develish years, how the band dynamics still works so well, how Bill still does his endearing dance-movements, how his body moves while he runs on stage, how Tom still makes all of his funny faces, how Georg looks cool no matter what and how Gustav is solid. Just solid as a rock and as the anchor of the band.

I loved to see how they've matured and refined their acts without losing their essential charm.

I loved how they still like to act playfull, like throwing water at the audience or at the end of Zoom into Me, when you can no longer see Tom because the top of his piano has been lit on fire and Bill thanks the public, there is suddenly this waving arm of Tom, popping out of the smoke.

I loved to see the Bill and Tom show, regardless how many times I've seen it, it's still as fascinating as it is beautiful.

I loved how they start to experiment a bit more with their music like playing the chorus of Monsoon in the middle of Screaming.

And I loved all the fans and friends who were there with me to share this amazing experience with me. Thank you! I'll never forget it!

And, as proper etiquette dictates: Gustav ends the show!

PS: day 2 of miss r and Dailanche in Brussels mainly consisted of me having a go at all Hilton products and features.

Dailanche: We've paid for all of this, so better make use of it then.

and the both us, being in the same room but both on our own netbook

miss r: isn't funny that we're sharing a room but talking to each other on twitter?

and the both of us saying a tearful goodbye to the room, signalling that our TH-concert experience was really over.

miss r & Dailanche: Good bye room!
and the both of us gossiping all after noon long that we've both almost missed our train.

miss r: it's almost four! we have to catch our trains!
Dailanche: and buy our Stern magazines! Don't forget about Stern!
and that my friends is how my day ended: satisfied, tired and with Stern magazine. *throws a loving look at my laminated pics, laying beside me in bed*

Yeah, I really can't help myself. Just once more, Bill with a feeling.
