They stood hand in hand on the beach; both shivering slightly in the early morning chill.

"Doctor?" She asked, as the the ocean slides up the beach towards her boots

"Just wait," he commands with his usual over-excited grin. "It only happens at dawn."

So she watched the lightness at the horizon increase, until with a vivid golden flash the sun popped into view.

The golden flash was accompanied by a light tinkling noise, like glass broken into a thousand pieces.

"Look" he crouched, his coat tails dragging on the floor.

She joining him, resting one hand on his shoulder for balance.

He held a handful of what should have been wet sand and trickled it into her open hands.

Tiny, perfectly round, gemstones of a hundred different colours trickled into and over her hands. they chimed as they tumbled over each other.

"Every sunrise" he told her, his voice full of wonder. Even though he had to have been here before.

"Every morning as the first light crosses the horizon and passes through one wave from the ocean. This happens" he indicated down the beach. She could see the colours glinting as the sun continued to rise.

"They don't last long" he wrapped his hands over hers. holding the one handful of gems she had. "They get washed away by the ocean so quickly. You keep these."

She smiled at him as he helped her to her feet by the elbow and they returned to the Tardis parked on the dry and high up the beach.
