I'm just thinking about how much I love my job.
How many people can really say that?
For those of you who may have followed my ramblings over the last 4 years (when I posted, that is... *ahem*) You know I've had some pretty crappy jobs in the past. Mostly serving other people... for example: making frozen yogurt treats; working midnights, all alone in the computer room of a huge warehouse; slinging chicken; stocking shelves; answering phones and taking abuse at a call centre... there were good things about every one of those jobs of course, but I could never really say I loved the job.
Now I can.
I originally moved across this big country of Canada at the behest of
vibrantbeauty who had found a good paying job for me as assistant manager of a KFC, the owner was desperate for someone so would actually pay for our move up front, and we (I) could repay him out of my pay cheque once we were settled!! Whoa! This doesn't happen to people like us normally.
I have to admit, I missed her terribly and even though we spoke every day in one way or another, it's not the same as sitting in her living room talking for hours over a bottle of wine (or several as the case has been *L*) So when this opportunity came up we jumped at it.
I'm thinking it has to be fate. The owner of the KFC himself told me, upon our meeting that he knew I wasn't long at his establishment, that he foresaw more in my future than staying as the Asst. Man. (but I had a debt to pay off to him for providing our moving expenses)so I was to stay for a minimum of 1 year. That was not to be. Long story short, I don't work for the KFC anymore (hurt my back there and they couldn't find a modified job for me). So... after explaining this to said owner, and agreeing upon a repayment schedule of my own free will instead, I was home for a few weeks recuperating. It so happened that
vibrantbeauty had been in the process of starting her own business and we had planned that after I put in my year of slinging chicken, I'd come work with her. Well wonder of wonders, the accounting firm she worked for (quit from in Oct to be exact) asked her to stay on through tax time so they wouldn't have to hire and train someone new during they're busy season. So, out of the kindness of her heart (*snickers*)she said she would. So, she now had a new business with no one to babysit it until the end of April when she would be free. So guess who volunteergotroped into it? *L* Kidding, kidding...
I was thrilled to be so trusted!! So.. since the 9th of January I've been here every day (well.. every day but the physio days) waiting patiently for her to join me. That will happen in T-minus 16 work days. (That's not taking into account the holidays and the days she will be here because I'm temping at another business a couple days a week)
I LOVE MY JOB!
Right now, I'm listening to the radio, drinking a cup of tea, sitting on a comfy couch typing this on a lap top while I people watch out the window.
And what are you doing??
