actually, studies like this have been done (not with hansen, obviously) but it has been proven that preconceived notions influence individual preference.
this has been my argument all along. idiot people who want to fit a social norm constantly make fun of me for liking a band of whom they've only heard one song by that was released over ten years ago. so Hanson is being compared to a song, when in reality, i can't think of any of their other music that can be compared to mmmbop. it is so out of their musical norm, and people don't seem to grasp that concept.
i've actually done this to my friends before. i'll be listening to a song in my car, and they'll ask me who it is, i'll ask if they like it, and they'll say something like, "hell yeah!" and i'll say its Hanson, and they never make fun of me again.
