I am apalled at our country. I have lost all respect for Arnold Schwarzengaer (sp?) as a politician. If you guys haven't heard Tookie Williams is a man that is on death row in San Quentin. He's expected to be murdered (I mean executed) shortly after midnight tonight. He was the co-founder of the crips and is convicted of killing 4 people in ( Read more... )

I agree with u to some extent aimee, i do believe that basically anyone who has shown the potential to do good for others no matter what the previous crime should be allowed to live.I say that because altho i wouldnt feel good about letting someon who killed 4 people live period i would also recognise that someone who can prevent others from going down that road can atleast be USEFUL.i DONT BELIEVE HE HAS THE RIGHT TO LIVE HOWEVER if he really has taken away 4 other people's chances of living any kind of life no matter how much good he has done since.people need to take responcibility for their actions even if they realise how wrong they were int he past.Im sorry if that seems harsh but taking a persons life is pretty big.If u take someone elses life, just one think of al the things they missed out on so u could go on to hurt more people before u eventually settled down.Im sorry, i just dont feel any sympathy for him in that sense.I dont agree witht he decision to excute him however just because he has saved so many people since and ( ... )

Your view appalls me as well. I don't care if you're freaking Saddam Hussein. We do not have the right to repay murder with murder. Ghandi said an eye for an eye makes the world go blind. Jesus taught us to turn the other cheek and to forgive. Execution is revenge. It's not punishment, it's revenge. I am not saying that murderers and the like do not belong in jail for the rest of their lives but if you execute them, how many may have turned like Tookie Williams and never had the chance because you killed them too soon? How many people sit on death row who are innocent? The number will suprise you as to how many people we have found to be innocent after they have been convicted. How many people could have been innocent that we executed. Tookie says he didn't commit this crime. Why would he turn away from old gang ways, advocate to children and only not renounce his crime, because he didn't do it. So, yes, I belive that the state of california did just kill a man innocent of what they said he did. Even if he did kill them ( ... )
