THEY WON! THEY EFFING WON! 42-17! MY GOD, THEY DIDN'T JUST WIN THEY KILLED THEM!

MCCLELLAN - After four years of trying, Sacred Heart’s girls finally found the win column.

Sacred Heart jumped out to a 16-point halftime lead and cruised to a 42-17 area victory over Winterboro Tuesday night at Miller Gym.

It was that halftime cushion first-year coach Gretchen Johnson felt probably got her team over the hump.

"In most of our games we’d go into the half trailing by one or two points," she said. "It was that third quarter where we went wrong.

"Tonight, I think the girls were so far ahead they wanted to try and keep that lead even more."

Kirsten Kline led the charge - before and after the half - single-handedly outscoring the Lady Bulldogs with a 26-point, 18-rebound performance. It was well above her season average of 17 points per game.

She was the only person in the contest to reach double figures. Sacred Heart’s Erin Kline had 13 rebounds, four points and five assists.

Johnson said they had no prior knowledge of the Lady Bulldogs and played their base offensive and defensive sets. Doing so, they were able to hold Winterboro standout Miranda Garrett to only nine points.

Tuesday night’s victory was four years in the making. After going 0-6 the first year, Sacred Heart followed that with 0-18 and 0-22 performances. The history of the program now stands at 1-43.

I'm so excited for them! I really wish I could have been there, though. Oh well I'm still SO happy for them!!!
