It was getting colder and Orlando was feeling the chill through his fur. It wasn't especially cold, he'd definitely had colder at home, but he was missing the sun ... and it was much easier to notice, when it wasn't so warm, how lonely it was to sleep alone, rather than curled up with Grace's warm purr beside him, waiting to be woken up by the kittens pulling on his whiskers ...
He hated thinking like this. It was no use, after all, fretting over things he couldn't help. But he couldn't help this, either; he missed his family terribly and there wasn't a thing he could do about it.
It was certainly chilly, and he was well aware of the threat of crabs, but he needed the air; going for a walk always helped him sort out his thoughts. He kept to the edge of the street even though there was hardly any threat of traffic any more - just in case anything crabbish did turn up after a marmalade-coloured mouthful of meat, it was easier for him to take refuge in nearby buildings or hide under the remains of parked cars than it was for him to fight or run.
