The Stone (Part Two)

Nov 13, 2008 19:22

Characters: James, Sora, Harry Mason, Odd Thomas, and anyone else in the Cathedral who feels the need to be here for this.
Content: James gets a much-needed healing for his crab bite, but it's not clear if it's come too late. So he has a confession for those who may bear witness.
Location: The Cathedral, James' Room.
Time of day: Late evening.
Warnings: Morbid, depressing things.

Okay guys, this will be a bit complicated, so we'll do this in different threads in the same log. I imagine Sora will have the first thread in which he heals James, and then everyone else will post in to a second thread I will start if they want to bear witness to James' confession.

Far too quiet, the clock ticking too loud in his ear. Everything was too loud, eyes bleary and he feels so excruciatingly HEAVY he can barely lift a hand to move. Tucked into bed, fresh bandages over his wound, though it doesn't stop the coughing. The burning in his lungs has been the worst part. That and the growing pressure he felt in his abdomen. Sometimes it would just come out without him realizing it.

He'd lift his head and realize his ear was trickling blood onto the pillow, or it would ooze from his mouth without warning. There was a bowl at his bedside in case he needed to vomit another mass of black and red. Tar-like substance, stung and tasted lice acid and metal when it came up. Breathing hurt, too. The rasp of each breath made his chest ache.

He knew they wouldn't let him die. He resented them a little bit, but he didn't really expect anything less.

Even now he had been nothing but a burden on them. He would have laughed if he could. If it didn't hurt. They were angry at him. Rightfully so. What had he told Angela?

There is always another way.

For what? He caused them nothing but struggle, and everyone seemed to be getting by just fine now. They were alive and on the road to recovery. Why did they need him? Because they cared? What was the point? He had never intended to get attached.

Never wanted that. Though he had.

That's why he has to get out while he can. It was such a god damned trap, and then what of his truth? What would they say? He's a murderer. Killed his ailing wife out of SELFISHNESS. And what of that? He gets attached and then they find out? It would hurt all the more. It would be better this way.

Like pulling off a band-aid. Do it quick.

They'd forget him eventually. It would fade and they will. Heal.

Though there is. The one portion. That sliver of him that wants to stay. Stay with them.

I need so, to stay in your arms, see you smile, hold you close. And now it weighs on me, as heavy as stone and of bone-chilling cold.
