Difficult decisions [Raiel / Garnet] pianistofraieln October 3 2009, 06:02:24 UTC
He heard the announcements come through on his radio. The first one, from the person in charge of Tagruato, declaring a surrender and retreat. That effectively ended his and Garnet's conversation and he unclipped the radio from his coat lapel to listen (though, in all honesty, that had no effect on sound quality or audibility).

That was it. That was the announcement that they'd won. They were all free now.

But before that could fully sink in, there came the next announcement. The one from CFP-TCI. The one about going home. That was that big "UNDECIDED" for him, that huge beast lurking chained up in the back of his mind under a box labeled "WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THANK YOU." He sank back against the wall, slowly sinking farther until he hit the ground, but he didn't seem to notice because his eye was trained on the radio in his hand like nothing else in the world existed right then ( ... )

Garnet stood silently by, wringing her hands anxiously. They'd won. Finally, everything was over; the struggle, the hardship, the manipulation! No longer would they be pawns in some sick game. They were free!

Free to make quite possibly the hardest choice they could have been given.

It should have been easy. If not for her time in Manhattan, the people she'd met and known, the things she'd seen and done, the choice would have been simple; go home. Her fate had been decided for her before she'd even come to this place, and even if what they were saying was to be believed, that there was a chance that she could return home, healthy, live the rest of her life...

It wasn't that easy. It never would be.

"...Raiel...?" she whispered, setting a hand on his shoulder.

He didn't respond to the hand on his shoulder, not even with the usual tensing up, much less anything more obvious. He lowered the radio, shutting it off (resisting the urge to throw it across the room instead), and buried a hand in his hair as he stared down at the floor.

"Why does it have to be a choice like that...?" he said, quiet, but shaken.

Garnet bit down on her lip. Her insides felt like jelly, and her heart was beginning to ache; a terrible, tightening sensation, like a clock being over-wound. Dozens of thoughts raced through her head, at war with one another.

There wasn't really anything left at home for her. Even if she could go back and undo the year Zidane had lived without her... He'd vanish at the end of those years, wouldn't he? And even if that weren't the case, things were so different now. Different for her...

But the fact remained that her life was over. She could chose to start fresh, again, somewhere new, where no one knew her... or she could back and try to fit in world that no longer had a place for her. Neither was appealing. She could live without her Eidolons, she supposed. She'd done so for several months already.

But Raiel...

Gently, Garnet squeezed his shoulder. He'd just gotten his music back, truly. To lose that again, lose it forever, she knew would be devastating. He needed that, to be himself.

"It's alright." she tried, quietly.

For once, Rosette was quiet. It had been a long week - a long few days, even - and after everything that had happened...this was it? She leaned against a wall, watching the multitudes of people milling around the room. This really was it, then. It was goodbye.

She'd heard her options from the radio transmission, and it was obvious what she needed to do: she had to go home. She'd just found Joshua again, and the battle was still going on...they needed her.

She sighed. Yeah. This...this was it.

Harry leaned against the corner of the hallway, watching Rosette for a moment while he waited for her to collect his thoughts.

He'd always wondered what having a little sister might be like. Thanks to her, he knew.

"Going home I take it."

It wasn't a question.

She looked up. Harry. Of course. Like he'd leave her alone, in any definition of the word. "Yeah," she agreed. "Always was. I just...din't expect it to be like this."

Of course, that brought up another question. "What about you? What are you and Riza going to do?"

Tilting his head he teasingly said, "One day I'm not going to let you dodge my questions, but not today. We're going back to our own worlds, for now. We both have duties there we cannot ignore."

He paused and looked off for a minute, face stoic against the loneliness he would face in that time. "I'm going to call in every favor I have, tap the Gatekeeper, the Fairy Queens, everyone, and I'm going to find my way to her and get her back. And then I expect you to plan my wedding."

Then he turned and a smile of pure utter joy, the smile of a man who'd lived a life without parents being told he would get a chance to have a child of his own.

"And then I expect you to be willing to put in some babysitting hours when our child is born."

My, it was crowded, wasn't it? But that was to be expected. After spending so much time in this place, anyone would want to return home. Or... to spend their time together somewhere else. Ah, what a wonderful ending this was. Although one that seemed all too bittersweet.

Vyers scanned the room with a wistful smile. It was time to say his goodbyes. I hope they will forgive me for this. It was not his place to stay, and she was probably wondering where he had gone. But he would be returned to that moment, would he not? So perhaps she would not need worry at all.

The smile fell from the demon's face as he eyed the device. Even knowing he would go back... It still hurt a little.

After getting Sara healed and figuring out their course of action, Zidane was much more inclined to move around and catch who he could. Vyers would certainly not be ignored by the thief, and Zidane was quickly sliding up alongside the demon.

"Hey! Vyers! Good to see you still made it back outta this alive!" He flashes a grin and claps a hand to one of the other's arm. "So've you gotten things figured out? Squared away?" He beams.

Vyers adopted a cheerier demeanor at Zidane's approach, though it was obvious that it wasn't entirely a real one. "Of course I made it out alive," he replied proudly (oh the irony of such a statement), "Did you ever doubt moi?"

Vyers' smile wavered at the next question. "Well... yes, actually."

"Oh, I don't know. We did meet with you all beaten and crab-bitten, after all."

He pulls away, folding his arms up behind his head, still remaining amused, but then his expression changes to one more of curiosity and interest when Vyers speaks again. "Hm? So, where are you heading off too?"

He could have his own wishes. Hey, what can he say? He's gotten use to the demon being around. Just how long has it even been? Man...

In a corner of the DRT room sat a boy. He was watching everyone but at the same time, simply staring out into space. So, this was it? He knew he had to go to his own dimension to take care of his students and resume his job. He was glad that they could put him back in the same time and place. Who knew what would have happened if his students had wound up in the magical world with out him.

He was looking forward to seeing everyone again. On the same token though, he was thinking of all the people he would miss. His time here had been great on some accounts (giant monsters and crabs aside). He was going to miss them.

Negi wasn't sure if he was ready to say goodbye to them just yet. He felt like maybe he could just let time stretch out if he sat away from it all. Of course, all ready in his mind he was going over various theories he had crossed about other dimensions. Surely it was possible?

The small boy pulled his staff closer, looking more thoughtful than sad.

There was one boy Harry definitely needed to see. After all, when one was violating the fundamental laws of the universe itself, it helped to have a accomplice working on the other side.

"Say, Negi there you are. I wanted to bounce an idea off you."

Negi looked up. Honestly, he'd wanted to speak to Harry as well, but he'd also known that there was a lot of people Harry probably wanted to see and talk to.

"Really? About what?" He had a hunch, but he wanted to hear what Harry had to say.

"I'd like to hear your theories on magical gateways and the potential of interdimensional travel. I heard you mention something about a magical world?"

Yeah, like hell Harry was giving up this easily.

Zidane / Sara / Marona theherotail October 3 2009, 06:13:09 UTC
After everything, now it was finally toning down and they could... rest, for a bit. They would have to make a decision at some point, have to talk, but Zidane already knew what his answer would be and... well, would she ask? To go to the Manhattan's origin?

... or was she going to go back to her dimension?

No... he couldn't think about that right now. There was still time, after all. For right now there were more important things to get done, like the bullet wound she had from a few days ago.

The pair sat against a wall, Sara using one of his shoulders as a pillow - in no way was he going to let her move around, not yet. For his part, he waved out an arm, trying to catch a passerbyer, specifically a healer. "Hey! Could someone help me? My girlfriend was shot here and... it'd be great to get it healed..." He gazes around.

On her own, the girl wove her way past people who seemed to know where they were going. Marona was eager to get home, back to Ash, but she was also in no rush.

Words of help, however, quickly caught her attention. A cry of help impossible to ignore for the young chroma. She promptly backtracked against the flow of people moving by. Picking out the pair against the wall, she promptly approached, concern in her eyes.

"Can I help? I'm a healer," she offered.

Sara just sort of sat there, listening as Zidane called for a healer. She wasn't in the mood, or the shape, to try to move at all because of her shoulder, and she was still tired from the blood loss. The CSI in her was screaming that she needed medical assistance, but she was so comfortable where she was...

And apparently, Zidane caught someone's attention, hearing a girl's voice say something about being a healer. Opening her eyes, she looked over at Marona, hoping that she would be able to help.

Zidane relaxed with relief when he was finally able to flag someone down. He smiles softly to the girl, tilting his head so it was leaning against the top of Sara's.

"Yeah, you can definitely help." He raises a hand to signal at Sara's wrapped shoulder, dried blood licking at the bandaging.
