Strike 2

2 interviews, 2 rejections. This time I got to reference checks at least. I'm both sad and angry because what cost me this job was a slow reference. They wanted 2 employment references and my best one (the clinic where I worked for 10 years) never got the survey in. I was texting her frequently, to see if she got it, she said her e mail was ( Read more... )

Well. Can you grab a med/surg job or is it just as difficult? I know the first job is rough. And you need to keep fighting. But you also need to pay your bills as you say and use your license. What's your back up plan?

I have one more interview lined up, next week... After that, back to beating the bushes I guess. It's been hard all around, tbh. I have put out tons of apps and resumes, and so far only 3 interviews. I precepted in the ER, which has been netting me responses like "you meet our basic requirements, but we are going with candidates that are more closely aligned with the position (a RESIDENCY)... I thought that the whole point of a residency was that you were new to the area? Or I've not heard anything at all back...

So honestly, once this next interview is done, I really don't know what to do.... aside from continue to do what I've been doing. I am ACLS certified on my own dime... I'm doing everything I can think of to be marketable. All the travel nurse gigs and staffing agency jobs wall experienced nurses, which I'm not, so I haven't been applying to those.

Yeah I mean you might have to do subacute rehab for 6 months before you find a hospital job. But those jobs you can kinda leave whenever and then you'll show experience on your résumé. To be a traveler you need to be super experienced since part of a travel contract is if you're over staffed they can float you to another floor. Moreover with traveling you only get 3 days on the floor of orientation. Rehab might be what you do for a bit. Internships at my hospital are for new grads AND experienced nurses. A 4 year nurse on my floor starts his 20 week internship in the ED in may. So it's not just a new grad thing. I admire your tenacity and ability to get interviews. Really. No easy thing as a new grad. And maybe with 6 months of rehab they'll take you no problem. You should email the managers back and ask what else you could do to get hired there. That's what I'm doing for cardiothoracic.

Chin up. You're doing good

I'm so sorry about the rejections, and that is so awful about your slow reference. Beyond frustrating. All you can do is hang in there. I know, easier said than done. Good luck, and hugs.
