E is for Everywhere

“Mummy, what happens to people when they die?”

Aradia Lovegood looked up at her little daughter, who gazed back with trusting blue eyes. Luna had always been a deep thinker, asking questions far beyond most children her age. Aradia pressed her daffodil bulbs deep into the soil and brushed the dirt off her hands. “Well, there are all sorts of answers to that question. Some people die with issues that haven’t been resolved or anger that they haven’t forgiven. They stay here as ghosts until they are ready to move on. Some think that people are reborn into a new body until they have learned the lessons that they need to move on.”

“But what happens when people move on? Where do they go?”

“Well, some people believe that there is a perfect land beyond ours; heaven, Valhalla or the Summerland. I think that it’s even bigger than that. I think our souls become part of everything, part of the Web of Life. This daffodil,” she pointed to it, “has the energy of every living thing that has passed before it. Everything must die to make room for something new, but its pattern is never lost. I think the Universe remembers it. That’s my opinion anyway. Does it make sense?”

“Yes, Mummy. I think it does.”

Luna held tight to her father’s hand as they left the graveyard. Xeno looked back, his face black with despair, at the newly-dug grave. “My poor baby,” Xeno embraced his daughter.

“Don’t worry, Daddy. We’ll be all right,” Luna assured him with a gentle smile. She knelt down and picked a daffodil in the lane in front of the church. “I love you too, Mummy,” she whispered.

I will be there, and everywhere
Here, there and everywhere…
