mp3 players? Which one to get?

I know nada about mp3 players but I'd like to get one... all you techies and people in the know, could you recommend a model that's received good reviews or that you are particularly satisfied with?

I have the Zen Micro, a 5GB model. I think it serves my need. :)

Or how about iriver or ipod? What's your budget?

I've decided against getting ipod ones... I'm just not a mac person.
Budget around S$400-500. I've looked on websites that compare products but nothing beats getting first hand reviews from people you know ;)

Thanks! I'll research the model you have. :)

while the ipod is an apple product, it is not a "mac thing" - not since at least 2003.

apple sold 14 million ipods and 1.25 million macs in the 4th quarter of 2005. the majority of people buying ipods these days are windows users. that's probably why some time last year apple changed the tagline on the box to "for windows + mac". it's also probably why apple dropped syncing and charging via firewire and decided to go with usb 2 only (not all wintel machines include firewire ports - and even some that do (eg. sony) have 4-pin firewire ports, which can't be used to power attached devices).

Interesting... I was worried about the compatibility issues. What's the deal with itunes? Something about converting the format? Or is that what you meant about syncing?

Do you have an mp3 player or one you would recommend?

I use my PDA to play music. But I've heard good things about the Creative Zen Vision:M.

Try not to get the iPod variants. They're cool-looking but technologically they suffer from a lot of disadvantages.
