This one was pretty bad, as there was an argument that the driver's mirrors weren't set correctly - it's not entirely true to say that your life is worth £200 and 3 points, though

Diving up the inside of HGVs, lorries etc. that are turning left is dangerous. You and I both know that it shouldn't be, and that drivers should take more care, but we both know that it is.

Heck, we were talking the other day - we've both nearly been hit by lorries that were overtaking us, and damn well aware of us, but impatient. I dread to think what the "punishment" would have been for either of those drivers if they had hit us - but probably not much more than this guy got :(

Eilidh's family want to use this case to change the wider rules, but that's not what the coroner is there to do.

Sorry, should have added to say that it's not going to get any appreciably less dangerous to dive up the inside of lorries by increasing the punishment to life imprisonment, either. It happens too infrequently (from the perspective of the individual lorry driver) to make it a meaningful punishment
