Cool. But notice what's missing from the Americans' piles of food that (with the exception of the family living in a camp on <$2.00 a week) is in every single other photo? Pathetic ( Read more... )

yeah, I saw that. I would last...2 days on that water. I likey me drinkey.

Did you notice that apparently germans only drink gassy water. And they're unhappy. But their food is ORGANIZED.

Bhutan sounds good, so long as we skydive out of a plane and live here for a month:

I saw no bread on the Revis family's table (North Carolina), unless you count the crust of their pizza or the biscuit with their fried chicken. The Caven family in California has a deli sandwich (I think?), several bags of bagels, and maybe a loaf of bread, though I can't be sure.

There are a couple other families where I couldn't be certain. The Ayme family in Tingo have what looks like it could be a loaf of bread. The Namgay family in Shingkhey Village don't have any visible bread, but do have a massive sack of grain (maybe). So maybe bread's not what you were talking about.

What gets me is not whatever's missing, but what's present: so far as I can tell, the two American families are the only ones who have incorporated fast food into their weekly diet. With the family in NC, it's obvious with the McDonald's fries and the Burger King cup, but with the family in CA you have to look no further than the stack of fast food Coca-Cola cups in the back.

I can count on you to make me look like an asshole anytime.

But actually, the amount of fresh bread was interesting. I loved the Sicilians, who seemed to have put a layer of bread down before stacking their food on top. Like a giant lasagna.

So was it the bread, then? In any case, the fast food thing is even more disturbing to me. Then again, I don't know what fast food chains in other countries are, or what their packaging looks like. For all I know, every single photo could have fast food in it.

It seems worldwide the people love coca-cola.

And Americans hate their vegetables. I noticed that those who spent the least amount on their weekly groceries were the ones that incorporated the most fresh greens.

The pizza and fast food with that one family was disgusting.

And food is way too expensive.

I think the weekly expenses didn't count things the families grew - I'm sure the family in Bhutan grew most of theirs themselves.

I was confused by the chubby mexican children (their food didn't seem too bad) until I noticed the rows of coke in the back.

If you're drinking 10 2 liters of coke a day, there's something wrong.

That was perhaps the best picture.
