Better day! A short story accepted!

Well damn if trying to be a professional writer isn't one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. After two rejections from agents yesterday (yes, two, the second for the same reason as the first, "we like it but it's not for us"), today I was informed that a short story of mine has been accepted for a print anthology ( Read more... )

Congratulations! You are on your way. You just have to keep plugging away until you find someone willing to take a chance. Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress. Just don't take out your frustration on Tyler and Watson.

I remember how giddy I was when a story of mine was included in a Doctor Who charity anthology collection (Missing Pieces). Yes, I didn't get paid, but, look, I'm in a real book with professionals!

Thanks!! I've prepared myself for so many "no's" that I actually had to read the email through a few times for it to register that it was a yes. It's encouraged me to get back to work on a few other short stories I've been putting off editing, so Tyler and Watson should be safe (for now...)

Thank you! I almost didn't submit it because I wasn't it sure it was what the editor was looking for, for the anthology. Good thing I did. :P

Congratulations - the first of many, I hope! I agree that there's still rather more cachet attached to being published in yer actual physical format than online, and of course the "real name" thing is good, too.

I'm afraid to tell my RL friends

That's the great thing about online friends! In some ways people are more their real selves online so you can be more open without fear of consequences.

Thanks!! I have two other shorts out right now that I'm waiting to hear back on. Original shorts aren't my strong suit, but it's so important to build a publication record when you're looking for an agent that I just have to keep plugging away on them.

I've told me RL friends now that I got another email from the editor this morning, after I sent back the contract and my bio. He didn't say he made a mistake so I guess that makes it real. :P
