Of course, it helps to get to the center of your anxiety, and figure out why you're so worked-up in the first place. Time for me to play Zen psychoanalyst (complete with bamboo couch).

To me, it sounds like you want to move forward, but can't, and this is what's pissing you off. If this is so, then what do you feel is holding you back? Where do you think you're going? Or do you feel as though you're standing still while everything else moves (the reality being that everything moves, it's just your mind that believes you're not going anywhere).

On the other hand, I'm no longer privy to the lives of many Bulldrekkers, if any at all.

Unemployed. Been unemployed for 6 months.

JFC, I'm sorry to hear that. I heard Illinois had a healthier economy than ours.

Me, I'm working a job that barely pays $8/hr, and I'm only doing it because there's no way I'd qualify for unemployment. I graduated from college back in May, yet cannot afford the applications for grad school.

However, I also live in Michigan, where employment opportunities are so bad that the map of our state could be used as box art for the next Left 4 Dead game. I've got a last-ditch plan to fly over to GA with some relatives in the hopes that things are better down South (something I thought I'd never hear myself say), but that's about as "by-the-seat-of-my-pants" as I can get right now.

Out of curiosity, where in GA? I'll be in Atlanta by September.

Hang in there, Daki, and keep working at it. Things will turn around eventually.

But it's working. Mayhaps the nightly exhibition of past atrocity is less about flailing yourself over previous events and more about reassuring you that you're on the right path, this time, and using the correct coping mechanisms. Dunno... just trying to find a bright spot for you.

I'm glad to hear from you, in any form - have been a little worried by your long absence. As always, if there's anything I can do from this distance, just let me know. Always happy to chat/be vented at/talk at you through speakerphone and hurl pretend insults so as to fuel a punching bag therapy session ;)

Hey man, sorry you're having such a tough time. I hate that mental "lowlights reel". Like, instead of "This is your life" it's like your brain is playing, "These are all the ways you SUCK!"

Which, y'know, "Gee, thanks, Brain. Like I wasn't have a hard enough time as it was!" sigh.

One thing which helped me (and erm, I ought to try to take my own advice more on this one - ahem) was actually going the other direction. And okay, I'm not all balls-to-the-wall like you are anyway, but even so, I was surprised how much yoga helped me. Like, mentally as well as physically. And if yoga isn't your thing, there are lots of other options on the more meditative end of things.

Regardless though, you've been through a HELL of a lot in the past couple years. Running isn't going to work forever. Eventually it'll catch you. By going the meditation route, you get to choose the time and the place to deal with it, y'know?

Good luck, man. Take care of yourself.

I know it will. Just hoping to get a bit of an edge so I can calm down a bit and then take a better approach.

Related note: I've tried yoga in the past and it did wonders to help with my breathing. May try some again.

Ja, the Powerpoint of Shame is my personal favourite as well.

Stress is evil and breeds all sorts of nasty things that you'd never naturally expect to have in your life. Sounds like the running helps though. Keep it up- you'll benefit. In more ways than one. I hope you catch a break soon. Seems like everyone I know could use one. Including myself.

Maybe I should start running too... or maybe I do too much of that already.

And, hey- it's good to see you around again.

I was around for the recession of 2001-2003. That was a cake-walk compared to what is going on now.

Hmm, maybe you should start telling other people to run and get paid for it. I know you used to do that once, and there's always a lot of fat people, even in bad economic times.

I don't know. You guys should flee to Australia. I hear bad things about the economic situation over where you're at, and it looks like there are even darker clouds on the horizon.

I worry about you guys.

Bad economy means less people willing to pay to get shouted at. There are more jobs being posted so I'm hoping something turns up.

I've noticed this too, just in the last three months. Hang in there, you already are strong so I don't need to tell ya to "be" that. It's already begun turning around, so it shouldn't be too much longer.

I second the run the Australia. For one, we're the only western economy that's not in recession (it's by 0.4 of a percentage point, but it's positive growth); for another you could hang with us all the time.

One can dream, no?
