An irony being missed by many:

Those shouting the loudest right now, demanding to know why the government hasn't done more to fix the leak in the gulf? Same people who were shouting they wanted government out of their daily lives and away from corporate regulations.

That's just the thing, though. When your mindset doesn't value things like, y'know, rationality, cognitive dissonance is easy to pull off. They can believe three or four mutually contradictory things, and you can't even reason them out of it. "You're just trying to confuse me, you Commie Fascist Muslim Lizard!"

Being over here, seeing "Gulf Rage" only on shows like Stewart and Colbert? This is the perspective I needed. Thanks.

Best source of news for America would be NPR.

Just to be fair:

This situation is hardly a "daily" event.

Also, BP did more to hurt America than Afghanistan ever did, yet we're at war over there.

Again, not saying your observation is inaccurate, just pointing two things out.

And both are very good observations.

Dude, no kidding. And the same people carrying on about taxes being too high and the government can't be trusted to do anything right and we should trust in the invisible hand of the market? Now they're wondering why the EPA isn't in charge of cleanup and why we're relying so much on BP to not only do the cleanup, but to be straight with us about how much cleanup is necessary.
