Thanks to everyone who sent good wishes on our way to camping. It was lovely of you to take the time to do so, and it worked! We had great fun. Here are some of the highlights, in no particular order, and with input from the kinder:

We love kayaking! First time for three of us, and we all adore it. Want to buy kayaks, use often.

Sounds absolutely wonderful! I actually had both delight, and a touch of pang in reading your entry... my only daughter and one I have such a strong bond with moves off to college in a couple of days :_(....

awww...I can understand that. My eldest will be heading off in two years, and I'm ALREADY feeling a bit nostalgic about that.

Oh - and I didn't get a chance to say so on your journal, but I was a misty eyed mess over the convention. It'd be so nice to finally not be EMBARRASSED of our President.

Wow, this totally makes me want to pack up a backpack, head toward the mountains and pitch a tent!

And it is no wonder you and your kids like to spend time together; it is your reward for years of great parenting =)

Go pitch a tent! It really is awesome. I'm already looking forward to going again next summer =D

Yeah - Lauren had seen one earlier, before we turned in for the night, but I had given up hope. I'm glad I ended up going out in the middle of the night, so I got to see one too!

what can I say, there are certain creature comforts I'm fond of. sleeping on something cushy is one of them.

contract rummy is an awesome card game. 7 hands, each one has a different meld. complicated rules, but basically you want to be the person who gets rid of all your cards first, because once you do, everyone else has to add up what's left in their hand. Low score wins. There are tricksy ways to win the game, even if you don't win a single hand. I am good at them.
