Last night, my friends Rick, Pete and I went to see David Sedaris at the Cobb Energy Centre. The tickets were a birthday present to each of them from me.

Even though I've read six or seven of Sedaris' books, I had never heard his actual voice on NPR or elsewhere.

The man was friggin' hilarious.

He is brilliant.

He has a thin reedy voice that he uses to good effect.
You should hear him sing Away in a Manger, a la Billie Holiday. You'll never be able to hear that song again without laughing.

LOL...as part of one of his stories last night, he sang the kookaburra song.

Friggin'. Hilarious.

What a great idea and sweet guy.

I saw Sedaris and Sarah Vowell together a couple years ago and know exactly what you mean here. :>)

If you tune into NPR's This American Life, he's often featured on that show. Ira Glass you know is family, or did you? :-)

Saw him at the Tacoma Pantages Theater in 2003 when Naked came (if I recall right) out and it was a blast to get to go.

I have on CD the radio broadcast of the Santa Land Diaries, excellent if you've not heard it.

I think I've read just about all of his books, but have yet to see him LIVE. I need to rectify this!
