I went to Ocho Rios Jamaica as a stop on a cruise, but to preface it has been 12+ years (the cruise was my HS graduation gift). The cruise highly recommended people do excursions in Jamaica much more than other destinations. We did Dunn's River Fall + some sort of botanical gardens. It was ok but not a 'must do' IMO. Also the locals were very aggressive hawking their wares - like they would grab your arm, bag strap, etc to get your attention. But like I said, we were with a tourist group in a tourist area. I didn't feel unsafe but I didn't care for the vibe either.

That's exactly how it was in the Dominican Republic and I *hated* it - I do NOT like to be touched.
