Ahhh, I have a piece I considered reworking for this topic with a line: Cautionary tales are meant to keep you from wandering too far from the fire
I personally have the unfortunate habit of striding off into the darkness.

Great examination of the campfire experience! I really enjoyed that you started with earliest man and brought it to some very recognizable myths and urban legends.
