Steampunk vampire corset

I was finally able to complete the corset for this new dress.  Here are some updates on the corset.

The pattern was drafted by me and this my first attempt of drafting an overbust corset. I really wanted a corset with gores in the top since I find most corsets make me seem very flat chested.  This is, of course, because I am not very well endowed.  So I drafted this corset to have two bust gores initially show off my limited assets.  This corset did require some reworking of the pattern after it was sewn, but I will get to that in a bit.  So this corset has a mix of flat steel and spiral steel bones. I cut each spiral bone to length and then capped each bone.  Here are the spiral bones all cut.  The flat steels were all cut, filed and then dipped in tool dip. Unfortunately I did not take a picture the tool dipping.

The corset is three layers, the outer fashion fabric is red silk and the inner layer and lining is cotton twill.  I decided not to use coutil because i figured this corset was likely to be a failure.  I really was not expecting this corset to go together very well, so I did not take many in progress photos but here is one with the front and backs mostly put together.

I did have one very big Aha! moment during this process.  I splurged and bought an awl for setting my grommets and the busk.  Wow, what a difference this made.  I had been using a dull needle and a pencil for this and a real awl is so much better.

After getting the binding sewn on and everything set, I tried on the corset and discovered that although the corset will fit, I really dont like the fit.  There was little lift and my breasts felt rather unsupported.  I think I made the bust measurement too loose, so I removed one gore from each side.  Suddenly the corset gave me enough lift without making me quite so flat chested.  I am now fairly happy.  So I decided to embroider over the bone ends.  Here is the final corset on a pillow.
