Great to see another update so soon, hon!

Now I love Mr B too! He is just awesome. *g* Orlando really scared the living daylights out of Sean.

Good to know a bit more of Orlando's past.

I hope Mr B isn't in trouble with Mrs B now? ;)

I shall be wrapping this up in a couple of chapters I think. I want to finish all the stuff I started so I need to stop procrastinating.

But no one will be in too much trouble, these were extraordinary times; people reacted in a very specific way *g*

*nods* I have a friend from Yorkshire, North Yorks as it goes, anyway, it was very much like that in his village, it's not ideal, you're right!

More to follow - soon except I am currently writing an Alan Ayckbourn pastiche!

Orlando should be anger from the so called logic that Mr. B was spouting but it was what it was. It wasn't right. It wasn't comforting but it just was. Act like a good ole' boy and don't rock the boat and you're okay. Act gay and you get run out of town. Well, in their case since they were accepted they would get a warning or a stern talking to before the nasty stuff began.

Thing is Bon, you are absolutely right but I didn't want to write a nice, politically correct, sanitised story. The fact is, homophobia, was and is rife all over this country and lots of other countries. You won't change people's opinions by making them change their language. The only way to do that is by assimilation - I like to think that Orlando and Sean, being part of the community, will subtly change people's attitudes. Or at least, some people's!

The opinions and biases run deep the further you get from a metropolitan area but then you have people like Nina who don't seem to care one way or the other. She was just looking for a good housekeeper. It's the danger of what she could do that keeps the tension going. I like the focus of it.

You are so right. Some prejudices are so deeply ingrained, it's quite scary.

Thank you very much for commenting.

I love Mr B - he's been on such a journey, too.
I love this (I know - it is angsty and dark and gloomy and I lived over there then (late '80's for me, was not a high point in my life - pregnant (and then with a baby), with only my partner to talk to after he had a long day working and commuting), but I adore this story. It reminds me and resonates. I'm so glad I'm able to read it again and thankful to you and to everyone in this fandom (sorry, I'm being all soft, but I just read a post from someone else about this sort of "specialness" and it just ...

Thank you!

p.s. This chapter felt so "right" - the old "flawed, but our flaws and what;s it got do with you?" mentality, something that comes from being different and still belonging.

*hugs* Hello you!

And yes he has and you are so right. The 80s were a very difficult decade for a lot of people and a lot of communities, ironically, it looks like this decade is going to be the same. Strange how history repeats itself.

*hugs more* Thank you very much.
