Maybe this war that Bush has got us in can maybe do some good for someone...

I was a naive fool to be a human shield for SaddamIts an interesting account from someone who went to Baghdad to be a human shield and try to bring the peace protests to the fore front of the worlds news media. I wonder if other people who've gone to Iraq for this reason ( Read more... )

I saw this story today:
A group of American anti-war demonstrators who came to Iraq with Japanese human shield volunteers made it across the border today with 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi government minders present. Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start.

Regarding people you know who think Saddam is an okay guy, you would need to exclude at least one organization who organizes many of the rallies:

Of course, the vast majority of the protestors don't agree with International ANSWER. They are an extreme left group that just happens to be good at organizing rallies. But it does pose a very interesting choice of whether the ends justifies the means on a micro-scale in terms of attending specific anti-war rallies.

Right now, the United States is at a point of no return. I think Bush is a foreign policy idiot, but I hold out hope that at least this path we find ourselves on will lead to a better life for the Iraqi people. And I hope that Americans will channel all this anti-war energy to something that will make a sure, lasting difference: elections in 2004.
