Bye Bye Concorde!

Today is the final flight of the Concorde.

Looks like most of them are going to end up in museums around the world as we take a step backwards and no longer have any sort of super sonic passenger aircraft.

Looks like bigger (B747, A340-600, and eventually the A380) won out over faster...

Has the Western World since 1900 taken a technological step backwards, or is this the first? Certainly inventions come and go, but usually something that has been fully implemented is replaced by something even better in the same way. I want my super-sonic passenger aircraft! :/
