Daley Manor Party

Feb 22, 2014 18:21

You can do this.Sabrina took a deep breath, looking herself over again in the free standing body length mirror inside her bedroom, flatting out the flowing top that Martha had helped her pick out for the party. Even though she had a walk-in closet filled to the brim with brand new, gorgeous clothes for literally every occasion, Bri still felt her ( Read more... )

She was curious.

How could she not be? She was standing in the middle of Daley Manor, one long been abandoned, coming up on a full decade nearly. But it was beautiful and grand almost a little haunting. She was fascinated, morbidly so, wondering just what it had looked like before Sebastian returned to the United Kingdom. Did the staff service just come out of thin air? Did he actually hire a team?

They were silly questions, but as she saw staff tending to a few things here and there, they began to float around in her head.

Which left her a little distracted, Marlow taking a short step backward, her head tilted toward the grand ceilings when she all but collided with a rock solid body.

"Oh bloody-" she turned around, hoping she didn't just hear the slosh of liquid behind her. "I'm so-" Her eyes widened when she took in the sight of what had to be Sebastian Daley. "Merlin, I'm sorry- I'm a terrible spaz lately- can't control my feet one bit- erm- nice house?"

He was trying to keep his distance from most of the party. Maybe it was ridiculous, grumpy, sulky, and any number of things multiple people had deigned to describe him as, but it worked for him.

Sebastian had mostly been trying to keep an eye on Sabrina without being too over protective big brother and ruining the whole point. He'd lost sight of her, though, at some point, and was just making his rounds, eyes rolling at pieces of conversation he passed, when someone backed into him ( ... )

Sebastian and Riley had been in the same year and yet he was never mentioned, Marlow never knowing anything about him. Not that she asked, though, the story of his family's murder far too horrific to just toss into casual conversation. But it did feel slightly surreal to know that an old dormmate of Riley's was back from the dead, so to speak, and here she was standing in the middle of his house.

It had made her want to write to Riley, tell him.

But even that idea made her feel a little ill.

She tilted her head back slightly to catch Sebastian's eyes, an odd quirk of smile tugging at her lips.

"How do you know my name?" she asked, brow furrowing more in amusement than anything else.

She wasn't even quite sure why she was here.

If this was about re-socializing Sabrina, Jemma was hardly the person to do it considering the only time they'd ever been in proximity to each other, Sabrina had taken off in the other direction at first opportunity. It was probably a smarter idea for Jemma to avoid the youngest Daley sibling in general. But she knew she couldn't do that, not in good faith when her friendship with Sebastian meant so much to her.

So when the idea was brought up, of course she said yes.

Still, now, standing around in the Manor, she felt a certain unease until Skylar came into her vision.

"Bloody hell, Fawcett-" she said, reaching her best friend. "I could have sworn you and I were friends at some point-"

With all the things that had been going on in the last few months Skylar hadn't had a chance to spend as much time with Sebastian as she actually hoped, settling for a few passing greetings and a drink here or there. Normally she would have been adamant about getting to know Reid's current flame but she'd been too wrapped up in her own things to actually even think about anyone else's gossip (for the first time in her life).

When Reid had told her about the party, and the little backstory on Sabrina that went with it, Skylar had accepted it with out a second thought.

Then again, when had she ever passed up a good party with Reid and The Core? Spending a little bit more time with Sebastian was just an added bonus.

"Is that you, Jemma Dorny?" Skylar asked, squinting as if trying to place her best friend's face with a distant memory. "Bloody hell! What are the odds of running into you here?"

Jemma's life has become turned upside down in the last few months, not one thing truly going according to plan. But something about that had become incredibly invigorating. She had to learn to go with the flow- whether it be because of the baby or because of her sudden head-over-heels sort of love with Drew.

She was going to have to take it all as it came.

Seeing Skylar now, however, reminded Jemma just how long it had been since she and her best friend had really had the opportunity to talk.

Especially after everything Skylar had been going through herself.

"Fancy that, right?" she teased at first, before taking the moment to wrap her arms around her friend, far more affectionate than she typically was. "How are you? Alright? I've been a terrible friend-"

Skylar was actually taken aback by Jemma's form of affection, wrapping her arms around her best friend to return the hug after a moment. It was usually her that was pulling Jemma in, always overly touchy with her closer friends. It seemed that the pregnancy was already starting to have an affect on her.

"I've been even worse," Skylar offered, pulling back. She reached forward and fixed a fly away strand of hair, tucking it back behind Jemma's ear.

"Things have been- well, up and down. Mostly just up right now. though."

Seamus still wasn't exactly sure what he was doing here at this big, old, and really creepy manor that he was pretty certain was actually haunted (and not with ghosts like Nearly Headless Nick either, the annoying and pestering sort like Peeves). It gave him chills just walking up to this place, not sure what to expect when he knocked on the huge double doors, and second guessed himself even as the maid took his coat from him. Normally he felt comfortable anywhere he went, falling in easily with the crowd and the rest of his surroundings but he was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that Dean was dating a girl that had basically come back from the dead ( ... )

This whole party was a bit beyond but Marlow was rather enjoying herself. If only because she was more curious than ever, finding herself within the long abandoned Daley Manor, the one Lupin had told her about when she came to visit before Valentine's Day with their scheduled wolfsbane. The story had been terrible to hear from him, Lupin having his old connections to the commune from the first War. It had chilled her to the core.

And here she was, standing in the middle of the hall, eyes scanning and watching and waiting for Dean to finally introduce her to Sabrina. Or Bri. She'd have to gauge just what to call her when they met.

She had to admit, she was more than a little excited to see just who managed to sweep Dean of his permanent bachelor status feet.

"Drat- you found me," she groaned, though her hand was reaching for the glass. "I was hoping you wouldn't find me-"

"After all we've been through together? That's cold, even for you," he groaned, his head rolling back as he sighed deeply and pretended to just absolutely crushed.

It was a relief to see her there, especially considering that he hadn't even seen Dean yet, which he hoped meant that he was off in some dark corner for a quickie rather than him distracted and making disgustingly sweet puppy dog eyes at Sabrina, which was actually far more likely. At least he had Marlow to pal around with, hopefully throw back a few shots and pretend that they were in their favorite bar rather than his uncomfortable party.

"But it's pretty clear that you're having such a great time with out me. I could go?"

"Don't you even think about it," she said, raising her eyebrows at him in a defiant sort of 'just you try it' kind of way.

She may have been thoroughly amused by this event but this was a huge place and there were people lingering around she hardly knew well enough. And with Dean off wherever, Seamus was like a breath of obnoxious and smug fresh air.

Just the way she liked him.

"I might get lost in this whole big place and you'll never see me again-"

Mostly Ava was glad to be spending time with her friends again, hopefully without too many hangers on in the forms of boyfriends as well. There was another intriguing part about this party though... the mysterious Sabrina. Resurfaced after so many years, and to be subjected to the core of all people as a reintroduction to the social side of things. That was always going to be interesting, especially since that was all Ava knew about the girl. How could she resist testing her a little?

"Sabrina Daley, right?" She said in way of greeting as she approached with a bottle and glasses in hand. "Ava Montgomery. I propose a game, to get to know each other. Ever played Never Have I Ever?" Short. To the point. This girl was not to stay a mystery for long, not if she had anything to do with it.

"Oh- um, yes. That's me," Sabrina said, taken off guard and doing her best just to keep up with what this girl was actually talking about.

A game? Well, that was probably a lot easier than the twenty questions she usually got and a lot more fun. She really couldn't figure think of a reason to say no or to edge of the conversation, seeing as the entire point of the party was to help her get to know people.

"But no, I've never played-"

"Perfect!" She smiled, sitting down with Sabrina and putting the glasses between them. "It's very easy. One of us says something we've never done, and if the other person has done, they drink. Get it?" Why not start simple with the drinking games? Although.... getting her drunk first might have brought out some more interesting things...

"First we need drinks though. Any preference?"

That definitely seemed easy enough, though Bri wasn't quite sure why they had to drink. She wasn't even particularly thirsty.

But those were the rules of the game, as strange as they seemed. It was just another thing on a long list that Sabrina just didn't understand.

"Soda?" she offered lamely, figuring it was a better answer than her usual water.

Orla was generally up for any kind of party she was invited to. That being said, this one held a bit of extra appeal since it involved a huge estate she'd been hearing bizarre rumors about for the better part of a decade, Reid's current piece of mancandy, and a girl Orla had almost forgotten about until recently.

She'd spent the last little bit getting pleasantly tipsy and pausing to admire random bits of art that she'd love to get her hands on before getting bored enough to look for some other form of entertainment.

Hadn't she seen Seamus around somewhere? He was usually good for some quality entertainment. She was on her way to finding him and being remarkably unsubtle when she saw a girl that, in context, looked extremely familiar.

"Sabrina Daley! Look at you!" Half empty glass in one hand, Orla's heels clicked sharply against the shining floor as she made to grab briefly for Sabrina's hand. The other woman was very understated and it was just - "Dear! You are so positively dear."

Sabrina had pulled away from Ava when their bottle of- well, whatever it was that they were drinking ran out, her head fuzzy. It was the strangest feeling actually. She was practically skipping through the crowd when somebody called out to her, turning to see a semi-familiar face, which of course was weird all on its own. When was the last time that she saw a familiar face?

"Oh- um, thank you," she said, trying to place that bright red hair but her head was swimming and it was hard to think straight.

"You look so familiar to me. But that's crazy-"

"That would be because we were the same year at Hogwarts once," Orla pointed out, vaguely haughty as ever. Her smile was bright, though, at being even vaguely recognizable. This was a bit of a surreal experience, even though they had never really been friends.

Orla had been adopted by Skylar fairly quickly and gotten very wrapped up with the older Ravenclaws, but she still remembered people fairly well.

"I'd be offended at being forgotten but we were tiny and you're recently back from the dead and everything." She stood back with a bit of a flounce and a half-hearted curtsy. "Orla Quirke. Formerly of Ravenclaw, if that helps."

"Oh- Oh!"

It didn't take very long for everything to click into the place- the hair, the silly name, even her voice was pretty much the same as it was. Sabrina had stuck pretty closely with her dorm mates, as most of the younger students did, but Orla Quirke was pretty difficult not to notice or remember.

"Yeah, sorry," she said, offering her a sheepish smile as she ran her fingers through her hair. "I definitely remember. I guess I just didn't expect to run into anyone who actually new me before-"
