Closed; Learning More Than Just Potions

It was a very surreal experience being back at Hogwarts after so many years, being pulled out in her third year to go into hiding and never even getting halfway through her formal education. While most thirteen year olds would have jumped at the chance to get away from the classroom Sabrina loved being at school, some subjects more challenging ( Read more... )

"Enjoy the show?"

Marlow's voice was teasing but she was curious to see if Sabrina enjoyed herself. It had taken Marlow more than a few weeks to get used to hearing the sound of her voice for so long, standing in front of a mirror to decide on the best lecture stance, and how her face looked during the more boring parts of discussion. It had been a tricky part of the learning process of becoming a professor- but she hadn't heard any serious complaints yet. Still, she'd yet to have someone sit in on her classes that wasn't another professor or her students.

And considering Sabrina's history, she was looking forward to her reaction. She couldn't imagine being away from Hogwarts for so long.

She moved to rummage up the variously tiny things mingling on her desk as she watched the rest of the students filter out. She had Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws during this part of the day, a decidedly more well-behaved bunch. At least the house rivalries were on the quieter side.

"It wasn't too boring, was it?" she asked.

The smile on Sabrina's face was undeniable, spread from ear to ear as she tore her eyes away from the text book and up towards Marlow.

The class actually seemed to have been far too short for her liking, wishing she had more time to try one of the other recipes. It had been fun putting together the Shrinking Solution, as well as a decent challenge, but she wanted more, growing greedy whenever she found herself in front of a cauldron.

"No, no! It's was great," she promised her.

"I've never seen this version of this book. The um, the ones that I had were much older-"

"Oh?"

Marlow glanced down at the worn copy, her own personal one from when she was a student, little notes scribbled in the margins, edits to the potions that she found worked better. But it was one of the many she's acquired since finishing Hogwarts.

"Do you want it?" she suggested. "I've got most of what's in there memorized really- along with a ton of notes I've got stashed in my office-"

She tucked everything into a velvet satchel before she looked back to Sabrina.

"Come on- I'll show you-"

"Really? That would be brilliant-"

Sabrina turned back to the text, closing it gently before sliding it off of the table top to cradle against her chest.

Of course now that she was back it would be easy to go back into Diagon Alley and pick up a copy of her own or even clear the entire shelf if she really wanted. But this felt a lot more special to her.

"I'd love to see your office too-"
