It was very late or very early depending on perception when it happened. Sebastian had spent most of the night as a wolf, curled up in the study around Reid, anxiously headbutting him any time some sound from outside the thick walls of the manor sounded out of place. That had been the theme of the full moon, more and more often ( Read more... )

It had (through stubbornness and resolution and disregarded fear) become typical to the point of being strangely comforting - full moon nights spent quietly and comfortably sprawled out with this version of Sebastian. While he doubted he would ever get used to (or let his nightmares forget) the sound of cracking bones and ripping muscle and cries turning into howls during the shift, the night itself had proven to be sleepless but, well, comfortable ( ... )

"It's fine." Sebastian needed to stop saying that. At this point, it was his go to for anything that was liable to make Reid - or Jemma or Sabrina - extra twitchy. What with a war building, attacks happening, hate groups developing, and the Order trying to put pieces together and make sense of everything, Sebastian had said those two, insufficient words so many times that they were losing whatever meaning the had.

Sebastian tried to shift around but thought better of standing up on his own at the moment. His breathing was a little ragged without adding motion to the destructive mix.

"I fucked up a charm or ... something." Squeezing his eyes shut, Sebastian flexed his shoulders a little and tested the depth of the wounds. The skin was tight around the edges, more from the transformation than any actual healing. There were going to be even more scars, as if Sebastian needed that. "There was a werewolf hiding on grounds. I don't know if I surprised it or it planned on jumping me."

Reid froze, hand hovering just above where Sebastian's shoulder was slowly oozing blood, pausing as if stuck in some kind of loading mode as he processed Sebastian's words.

It's fine - well, no, clearly not, but he'd gotten to the point where those two words coming out of Sebastian's mouth were automatically discarded.

Fucked up a charm - doubtful, not when every spell and charm was double and triple and quadruple checked with paranoid precision every month.

Werewolf hiding on the grounds -

"How- there was a what?" Reid all but shrieked, his voice reaching an unusual octave as he frantically took in Sebastian's appearance. "How is that even- why would-" Reid interrupted himself by clamping his mouth shut before anymore half-thought out half-sentences had a chance to escape the whirling mess of mile-a-minute panicked thoughts rushing around his head ( ... )

Sebastian would have told him to slow down. For about three seconds, he considered it. In the end, he knew it wouldn't matter. Also, he was in literally no shape to take care of his own wounds. He'd done it before, more than once, but he'd never be able to do it half as well as Reid.

Instead, he focused on not moving at all and watching the blood slowly crawl down his own chest. This was a disaster of epic proportions, and he had no idea who it had been or how bad this could actually be.

Worse yet, there was nothing he could do about it in the shape he was currently in.

Sebastian looked up at the commotion Reid brought with him and laughed, breathy and quiet. "Did you actually look at what you were bringing or grab half my cabinet?" It was weak, but it was snark. If nothing else, he thought that might prove that he wasn't on the brink of death, at least no more so than usual.
