If a post doesn't in some way relate to Dal or Dal student life, then I think this is not the comm for that post. Just mentioning Dal or having some 6 degrees connection to Dal would not be of interest either.
Some info and notices that might be of interest here are alumni gatherings, news related to the student gov't or University policies, practices or union things that impact student life and education.
I'll start keeping a closer eye on the dalnews site(though that has to be taken with a grain of salt) and gazette. Do you know any other places such things are mentioned?
I think you're doing fine, and I agree that the Gus's Pub ad was a pretty tenuous link to Dal before the guy finally explained it in the comments.
But even with the connection explained, I thought the huge film poster rip-off image and overall screenwhorage of the post was obnoxious and annoying. I guess he's too punk for LJ-cuts, though.
I am not too "punk" for an lj cut, it was merely ignorance on my part, I've never made an lj cut before, though I am familiar with them. I am not making any assumptions about your character, I am not sure why you'd do the same about mine.
Rather than make a snide remark, it's easier to just ask someone to make an lj cut.
Also it isn't actually the film poster, merely the cover of the soundtrack to the film. It's a rip-off inspired by a rip-off (the Clockers film poster that was believed to be an homage to the work, but Saul Bass regarded as a rip-off). I just like that thought, plus it also references/calls to mind, Sketches of Spain, the album that provided the band Saetia with its name.
I agree with JuJu - there's so few posts in this community that I don't tend to notice the odd one out.
I personally am not that picky about how strict the associations with Dal are. But I agree that large images and even extremely large amounts of text would do better behind an lj-cut.
I'm inclined to agree. I happen to like seeing actual events posted on the Dal community.
That was one thing that I found to be seriously lacking in my Dalhousie experience -- social events involving the Dal community! And it's not that they didn't exist. I just never knew about them! So if this lj community can serve as a place to post about Dal- and student-related events, then I think it should!

I've kept a few addresses, but I never know who still reads them.
