Finally. Yes, finally. There is now a political and legal writ which allows a woman control of her body and her life. Even with all of the threats and horrific game-playing and words bandied about (I'm looking at the Catholic Church here...) the right thing was done ( Read more... )

Hi! Wow, this is going to come out of left field but you left a comment on my comment in a melbmaniac post (regarding RMIT courses) and I just want to say thank you so much for your advice. I'd reply there but strangely the entire post was deleted? :( Anyway, yes, thank you so much again. I was really stressing about what to put in my application and really wondering what they were looking for but your advice has really helped. :)

Hey, no problem! It's a great course if you can get yourself in - not least for the contacts you can and will make. RMIT are a supportive bunch when they can see potential. They will do whatever they can to help you on your way.

(I don't know what happened to the comment, though it does happen to me a bit...)

That really does sound great. I was a bit tenative before choosing to really push myself for RMIT but I've been there for a semester (doing something else) and I really do like it. The people are great and I've had a really suportive lecturer/tutor the past semester. It's really good to hear from someone in the staff as well since it's so terrifying figuring out when and how to apply. A lot of the different pathways get lost in the complexity of admissions. I'm not really holding my breath in getting in because I know it is ridiculously competitive but I hope I do and it's good to hear from someone on the inside that what they're looking for is passion and not pretentious verbosity. It really does sound like an amazing course.

I think a lot of people go in with this attitude of thinking they are going to be taught how to write, like it's a technical skill. The key is wanting to learn, and learning to adapt, to accept criticism, and to enjoy being in an environment where you can share your work with people willing to provide feedback.
Anyhow, I'm a researcher/Masters student in the department. Us and the PHD students get to see a lot of undergrads/hopefuls pass through. You think undergrad is hard to get into... you should try getting into postgrad! Torture, I tell you.
Best of luck!
