Now THAT's a workout

Swaddled under two blankets, a duvet, sheets, sweatshirt, t-shirt, yoga pants, those thick, fluffy, winter socks, and a nice warm puppy on the bed, I am writing to you from the depths of the cold, which can now be described as our house.  Maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but the heater in our house stopped working yesterday.  I didn't really ( Read more... )

I think I might be more pissed off than I was the first time you told me about Swimmer Pam. I mean, seriously. She's giving you advice on how to get pregnant? Like you're not doing it right or something. Like you're not trying hard enough or you're trying too hard or if you'd just stop thinking about it, it would happen. All of this goes on the list of what NOT to say to someone who's having trouble having a baby and people are just so.... Grr ( ... )

Wow - I cannot believe swimmer Pam is being SOOO horribly insensitive, getting all up in your business (like she has a right to ask you those questions because you share a lap lane together). I am so sorry!! I do think you have a right to be bold and say something (with gentleness, while being direct) "I only discuss and receive advice on fertility issues from my doctor and close friends. Thank you for trying to help but it is not necessary"...and you initiate that conversation before she talks and then you walk away.

Be honest. You can choose to be as tactful as you like. Tell her this has gotten to be a sore spot for you. You can even tell her thanks for her help in the past, but you don't want to discuss this topic anymore in the future (but that's only if you want to be nice about it). You can even tell her about counceling at church to get her to shut up about the whole God thing if you think that would help. Either way say "This is something my husband and I are going through together and don't want to dwell on what happened or is going to happen in the future." Either way, tell her how you feel and you'll be happier. It might be weird for a few days if she takes it the wrong way, but she'll get over it. You need to say something for your sake.

This is a really stinky situation and I'm so sorry you are having to deal with it.

If she brings up the subject, I think you should give her a closed-lip-half smile and say "I don't really want to talk about. Hey, did you watch ?" Repeat as necessary until she gets the point.

That type of close minded Christianity upsets me so much. I can't find the right words to adequately express why, but it just contradicts the entire notion of grace.

What is wrong with people??? So according to this woman, you have endured this because you are not Christian enough?? I agree with Emily in that you should just try to avoid the conversations because it is impossible to get through to Looney Tunes people like this as they actually believe the fundamentalist crap. I am so sorry you have to have contact with this insensitive moron. Ugh...
