Friday the 13th indeed

LJ seems to have bursts of obits at times across my flist. However, I guess I'm the only person who saw this one.

Keith Herber died this past Friday, apparently suddenly and unexpectedly. He was 60.

Most of you are now going "who?"

For Call of Cthulhu fans, this is akin to when Gygax passed away. Along with Sandy Petersen, Keith Herber is one of the founding fathers of the game, and responsible for a lot of the books that made it great, including The Spawn of Azathoth campaign.

As a farewell, I'll cite Shriekback. I've always felt that this song was influenced by his work, or vice versa. If I ever got a chance to ask the dude from Shriekback, I feel he'd confess to having played in Keith's game at one point.
    Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
    Big Black Nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home
