Hello Everyone,

Well, i recently purchased a custom made Tia Dalma costume. I do plan to embellish it with some smaller details, like the shells on the belt.

Could I get more info about where you purchased your costume? I live in Los Angeles, California, USA and I really want a great Tia Dalma costume for Halloween. How much did you pay for it? I'd like to buy one but I don't have more than $150USD to spend.

Hi there
do you have a web site where you got your costume! I plan to dress up as calypso for a fancey dress party and cant seem to find one at all I did google the name of the dress but failed to find what I was looking for! Also how much was the dress out of intereast? I would be really greatful for any help

I am making Tia Dalma for my 15-year old. My costume is pretty much an exact replica. I attached the cowrie shells to the belt (a piece of Persian rug) by first drilling a hole in the back of each shell with a Dremel tool. Then I sewed each shell to the belt. Then there was the beading!!--small glass Tibetan beads in a scallop around each shell, top and bottom, the length of the belt. Also, there is brown wooden beading around the perimeter of the entire belt. All in all, the beading itself was 12 hours of hand-sewing. The shells, which went on first, took about an hour to drill--I needed 34 inches of them--and sewing those on went fairly fast, maybe another hour. So far, the belt has been the most time-consuming aspect--but the coat will be worse, I expect. Also, the apron has a lot of trim at the bottom. Thank God for sewing machines!
