Filaments of bacteria in my crock pot?

Okay. This has happened a few times now. When I cook chicken in my crock pot, these dramatic, icky, spider-webby filaments develop, covering the chicken and adhering to the sides of the pot. Is this just regular ol' scum, like you get when you boil chicken, but grown in glorious structures? Or is it perhaps living bacteria that grow into amazing ( Read more... )

It's safe. That's normal when you cook chicken for periods of time. You'll see it when you make broth. It's perfectly fine, just sediment and grease. You'll survive. :)
