I spotted her! She's caravanning with the line crews. There are power company workers putting together large piles of equipment and heading down to help, and she's with them!
You know how it is with this administration -- they're doing all sorts of good deeds, and they just don't want anybody to know! That's why they appear, at turns, corrupt and incompetent! They're busy saving the world, without any fanfare or attention drawn, one good deed at a time!
Hard data. OH yeah.shoutingboySeptember 1 2005, 23:09:36 UTC
Oh, I've got lots of hard data about Condi Rice. Not to mention throbbing data.[*] And...
ahem...
Okay, I'm fine now. No, I hadn't heard anything about where she is and what she's up to. From all accounts, she spends a lot more time in foreign lands than the last SoS did, so it wouldn't surprise me if she'd been traveling (there's a lot of State Department work to do in NY, what with the UN and all).
This article seems to imply that she's in DC now, since she's just reportedly made a statement about foreign aid--but the article doesn't quote her directly, and everything's consistent with "she made the decision by phone call".
If she's away, I doubt she's on vacation--not what I'd call a vacation, anyway--'cause she's one of the more frighteningly driven women I've ever heard of. Since she's one of Bush's closest advisers, she may have been out in Crawford with him, but I don't know where she is now

The rumors are that she's in NY on a three-day vacation, and that she's been spotted taking in a Broadway play, buying multi-thousand dollar shoes, and playing tennis.
Seems unlikely to me.
*cracking up* Just read the more, er, interesting bits of your comment to chiefted and totally grossed him out. Heh.
And...tsk tsk! And you were thinking about seminary.
But, you know what pisses me off most about that article? It's not that Condoleeza Rice was off buying shoes while there was a disaster going on. It's that everybody's cheering the woman who castigated her for doing so -- a woman who was herself in the exact same store at the exact same time also shopping for shoes. Whatever happened to the whole, "Let he who is blameless cast the first stone," business?
I'd read that article, and I wasn't sure how much to believe. I don't know the source and it's written in an inflammatory, dishy style (which doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong).
The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations. I don't watch the news, so I have no idea if they're carrying it. People seem to think it's sad and want to help. *shrug* Apparently Canada has (according to a news story that I can dig up a realplayer link to if you want) offered a ton of support in terms of trained and equipped evac teams, mobile water purification systems, etc., etc., but nobody's returning our calls, so we're twiddling or collective thumbs in the meantime.
I read somewhere (no link, I'm not saving as many as I was) that she was spotted spending lots of money -- like a thousand or more bucks -- in a nice-clothes-store (or shoes?) and someone yelled at her, asking why she was clothes shopping while New Orleans was drowning, and she had security haul the person off. No idea how real the story is.

However, I like the stone-casting comment.
