There is a very sweet story about library cats in library_grrls (yes, the title's mono-gender, but I don't think the community is).

As a severly allergic person, the story disturbed me, but when there were comments that a "damn patron" complained about allergies "all the way to the board of commissioners," I had to respond.

I'm glad you responded. Cats may be wonderful animals, but they should not be in public places where people where they can cause problems for people with allergies. And, unlike guidedogs, there are no real justifications other tha "Awww, isn't that sweet!" for them being there.

Go you! People just don't pay attention; I've always know about animal allergies, I don't know how other people can miss it.
