Part III

Matthew then declares that it was going to be a dance showdown(?), but in actuality was motioning to the rest of the Boyz aside from Juan about "something". Juan goes out donned in a Roman centurion hat and cape with spear and whip and just going "Whoo! Dance dance!"(?). But in reality it was a birthday surprise, as Mark and Luke pulls onto the stage a choco cake with candles. Underneath are some "choco pies" in packs which Juan tosses happily to the audience.

And almost like an immediate answer to his birthday prayers Abraham gives him an envelope. Juan pulls out the envelope and begins to read. It was a letter about his parents, that they were in Bakers Field. The rest of the Boyz rejoices at the good news, however only to find out at the end of the letter that it was actually at Bakers Field that Juan's parents were buried. It was immediately a somber mood, and Mark and Luke begins pulling out the cake trying not to make the cart squeak. By the time he finishes the letter Matthew takes courage and asks if Juan was alright, and Juan fakes his happiness for a moment until he breaks down crying at a corner.

DX-12 begins running, and suddenly the numbers were back up to 400+. The Boyz panics, trying to make up for this and Juan's sadness by Matthew trying to cheer Juan up at the corner even dancing to him one of their funnier choreographies and the rest of the Boyz speaking to the audience but failing to really say anything substantial. In the end they just decide to continue performing La Vida Eternal which is a Spanish cha-cha-like song, hoping to cheer Juan up by doing so. They try to pull in Juan and get him dancing and singing but he would not, so for the first part the Boyz tries to sing his lines. They even try to fill in the dead lines with some stunts. It was actually a happy song with a message of hope and life, but obviously it would not reach Juan.

Near the bridge however they were forced to make Juan participate, by doing various tosses with Juan as like the "girl" in the tosses XD;;, Juan still crying the whole time. They also corner Juan to finally sing at the mic.Juan just slumps at the middle of the stage however, and the Boyz sing to him that GOD has a plan and surely it would be alright. This makes Juan finally sing his heart out though still in a very sad way (Go's performance here is really touching, specially his voice level at this part. These boys can really sing their high notes*___*).

DX-12 runs again as the Boyz comfort Juan, and the counter went down to 11 (or 33?). This finally cheers Juan. Mark then looks guiltily at the Boyz, wondering out loud, "what if the numbers still there are caused by a secret?"(?). The Boyz just looks at him wonderingly, and Mark speaks a little. Then the lights dim until only the spotlight is at Mark. He speaks this very long internal monologue about the loneliness of his situation, mainly addressing the audience --- that he is a "closet gay" (<---ok, he didn't really blatantly admit this during the monologue, Aya is actually kind of hesitating in translating that he did "admit" but by his speech it seemed he's hinting to it), but he is still loving being a Christian and still trying his best to keep the faith. He wants to admit to Matthew and the Boyz, but stops himself right before he could say the words... It is an emotional moment for Mark (and Masa --- i think i understand now why he had been nervous... Masa with a bittersweet smile.... ;^;~~~~). He sings Epiphany --- this song increases in his notes as this goes along alskjsldfdlskfjdls. At first he sings it alone, like he was struggling with his feelings, and then eventually the other Boyz sing with him [like they do understand he has a certain secret to keep, Abraham clasping his Star of David sign as assurance to Mark] and the notes go even higher 0___0;;. But Masa delivers it with the right emotion until the end (so happy for him!). [Its unclear to me though if the Boyz actually knew "the secret".]

All the Boyz are nervous but comfort Mark. Drumroll sounds and Matthew saying something like this was the moment of truth, and DX-12 runs. It goes down to 4. They were all relieved, but bewildered at the same time at why it was still not at 0. They think this must be a different level already --- some of the audience may have already been held by the Devil! Matthew mentions something like code 918 [ I seriously do not know if this actually has some real religious connotation ]. The Boyz looked hesitant and afraid, but relents there is no other way and pulls out a chest.  Matthew also makes the guitarists unearth some old dusty religious texts which they blow at Matthew's face XD. Mark clings again at Matthew, wailing, "Matthew, kowai!" and obviously loving clinging at Matthew XDD.

lights and sounds change to something foreboding, and Matthew finally opens the chest and takes out various religious items --- holy water to Mark, some grail to Luke, a cross(?) to Abraham and a small Bible for himself. He does not have anything for Juan though, but Juan forces him, so he takes out a straw effigy (straw doll in the shape of a cross) and some tamagushi(?) (holy branch with shide [ this is a Shinto symbol --- I'm sorry i forgot what it's called =___= ]). Then they sing Number 918 which starts with them circling the chest chanting "Get the hell out, Akuma" [exorcism rite XDDD], and goes to a fast pace with a bridge part where they do formations and jumps and dance ability showdowns (Go breakdances again one-handed, while Masa does his perfect turns across the stage XD). There is that part near the end where Go(?) and Masa sings the high parts of the song.

DX-12 doesn't go down after the end of the song however. The rest of the Boyz tries to sing again Number 918, but Matthew now paces around DX-12 and finally angrily makes the band and the Boyz stop. When they ask what was wrong, Matthew expresses the realization that this 4 might actually be them. And he begins to admit that he had been offered a solo project (?), and tells the Boyz to continue without him. The Boyz however one by one also expresses that they have also offers(?) (Luke at first was angry at Go, but eventually admitted himself. Aside from Mark maybe --- it looked like he was on an emotional moment again insisting Matthew to stay or take him with him if he'll really leave but Matthew refuses --- and Abraham who just sits quietly at the corner)..

They quiet down, and Matthew begins to apologize to the audience(?). At this Abraham suddenly stands up and interrupts and says something like if they would not go on he would continue being an "Altar Boy" on his own(?). The lights dim and he is on this spotlight as he goes into this monologue about him being a Jew but in the end had already accepted wholeheartedly the faith of the Boyz which he considers his family now... but now he's left alone. He takes out the paper which he had finished writing for the Boyz when they first met, and shows this quietly to the Boyz, before offering it to the pianist, sobbing.

The pianist then plays a slow version of the song (which was the one actually played comically at the nikki parts). It was an emotional moment for Abraham, he was sobbing slightly as he sings the song (I Believe). It was really a touching song about personal faith, I really felt like crying honestly. Specially when one by one the rest of the Boyz sing the rest of the song and join Abraham center stage as the spotlight turns on them, comforting Abraham, starting from the second to the last who had been "recruited" to the Boyz --- Juan, Luke, then Mark. They sing the chorus, then at the bridge Matthew finally joins them;___^.
And the music and their singing swells higher until Matthew was singing the highest "I Believe" parts now. [ I didn't notice it at the first show, but as the Boyz eventually join Abraham in singing the DX-12 counter goes down until it went down to 0 at Matthew finally joining in ^___^ ].

The song ends, and the characters exit stage as the lights dim and the band does a rock finale reprise of the I Believe song. Then the Narrator speaks some final words as the music swells down. Followed by GOD as the beat pumps up again and lights go back up.  The characters re-enters this time dressed in white sleeveless shirts and white pants. [aljfdlksdfldskjfsd great bodies abound XDDD... Masa really looks good*____*]

They sing an Altar Boyz Remix/Medley which is like parts of all in the songlist, except skipping some middle songs (like the keitai song). It was an energetic part --- the audience stand at this point and claps along with the music. Roma (or Go?) beatboxes again as kind of introduction to the Rhythm in Me part and Masa sings his part at the extension stage again aldsjflsfjldsfjk. H-san/Matthew turns on his boyband charm again at the virginity song XDD (at the first day addressing the sole guy infront of me XDDD). Sometimes they'd side-comment in between lyrics XDD after that. Go/Juan sings all his supposed parts in the La Vida Eternal song and in the middle of the song the rest sing along with him and did their dance showdowns again (they all seem to have ballet backgrounds alskdfkdsjfsl. and i think this is where aside from the turns Masa does his cartwheel again XD ---or is this at the Number 918 part? --- and Roma once again bootyshakes XDDDD). Then Masa sings his Epiphany song, at the 19 he was glaring at the girl Matthew picked as he spat the lyrics to this XDDD on the 22 he sang it normally. Then the boys form their circle around the imaginary chest again for the Number 918, saying "oh yeah oh yeah" [this is the boys playing around already XDDD] and as they go around the circle whoever arrives at the center does some spontaneous bootyshaking XDDD, which i think included Roma and Masa (i forgot the other person ahaha). Then they do their one line formation and their jumps (quite reminiscent of their poses at the official poster, it seems XD), and each boy does some stunts again. And Abraham sings I Believe again, where the audience waves their hands along the song, with the Boyz singing the end chorus "Shinjiteru kimi wo" blended. And then the ending part of the We are the Altar Boyz song (high notes abound!).

The Boyz exit stage, and go back out to do their bows. First with each other, then scatter around the band as they finish their thing. Masa jumps from the upper stage over the microphone stand XD. Shinji and either Go or Ryoma does the same thing, H-san right after gets scared (but i think he does it as well after ahaha). Then the band finishes and the boyz take their bows with them and exit stage.

Before exit stage on the 19 however, Roma celebrates his birthday, and the Boyz wheels out cake placed over Juan's "choco cake" as everybody sings happy birthday. Roma says something like, "this is real cake, right?" and everybody laughs. And he takes his time blowing making sure to blow them all XDD. Then the Boyz make him do a speech center stage. Roma says something like for Luke's role he was forced to build up muscles --- at first he was hesitant, but now he really likes his body XDDD. [ Aya upon seeing the pamphlet suddenly remembers that he was the gay one at Rent XDD]. And all of them exit stage (but Roma keeps singing "Happy Birthday to meeee" backstage XDD).

Three of the boys who have exit stage left did some running dance across the stage to exit right --- i think it was either Roma or H-san, followed by Masa with his air split XDD, and then Shinji just plain ran XDDDD.

I wasn't able to hang out at the end of the 19 show because Aya was feeling ill and has to eat. On the 22 after the FACE senshuuraku i managed to hang out --- only Roma, Shinji and H-san went out. Roma-san was really friendly! And accommodated the sudden queue infront of him XDDD that the staff went down and had to stop the queue right after some 3 foreigners.

One guy near the end of the queue made him sign on his shirt that he side-commented in English to the foreigners, "Only in Japan" where the foreigners and onlookers laughed. Roma went back in the venue. Shinji was stopped by some fans as well. H-san looked serious and in a hurry(?), but shook hands with the fans as he went as he thanked them. Go and Masa didn't come down >.<;; (most of the fans expected he would go by train as he usually did, but it had been a theory that he actually went out by car as there was basement parking(?) at the FACE --- due to his many gifts maybe alskdfldksfjsdlkfjl --- or he immediately went out drinking with Roma and Go XDDDD. A Go fan almost waited as long as me, even checking on his blog via keitai which happened to be down that day. Crew packed up and told us there were no more cast inside ;^;).

Play impressions:
It was really good! I honestly expected irreverence, but that actually didn't happen. Not being able to understand much Japanese the whole thing actually felt pretty serious! Aya said that for what is was supposed to be ---- satire --- it was actually very serious, like they were so into their thing (we agreed on the part that the boys just had these determined "Let's save souls!" "Ganbare!" vibe going on). The seriousness wasn't "heavy" though... it's really hard to explain XDD;;. If not for the Narrator though pretty much covering the Catholic/Christian background and the theme of "saving souls" being universal, it may have been hard to understand for one who is not aware of the symbolisms scattered throughout the show (mostly Catholic).  I seriously loved it, that is why i watched it again even on standing row. And i'm waiting for the DVD XDDD... it's funny and sexy and serious at the same time, strangely! And the fanservice... aldskfjdlsjflsdjfdls sooo intentional.

on Masa:
MASA WAS PERFECT BOTH NIGHTS. *dies* His singing was so powerful --- it's really a different experience seeing him perform live *___*! He moves with this kind of grace that you know that this is one kind of a person and a seasoned dancer at that (think Jennifer Garner on Elektra maybe XD?). I think he did lose some weight. but he's still not that thin. or maybe it's the slight muscle detail distracting from his weight loss. such a perfect body *dies* at least he's not as paperthin as me XDDDD, so he seems ok still. But the play really required LOTS OF ENERGY... I honestly felt so worried for him @___@;;!

This play is really a good reference on the range of Masa's acting, singing and dancing abilities. Because he HAS LOTS OF PARTS IN IT ASDHGKHJLKLJKLL. or, maybe i think so because he had been really expressive! His spontaniety is also fun to watch XDDD. I noticed that he was mostly designated to sing the higher notes and some notes that changes abruptly in scale (don't know what this is called in music), maybe because of his voice quality. I actually got nervous for him on some of those parts@___@;;, but it appears that as a total performer he improved greatly --- he has much control over his voice and his air and his stamina now!

and i was really kicking myself at all those points that he was practically 2-3 steps away from me on the platform and i didn't shout "MASA~~~!" actually most of the time i was trying to compare my height to him all those times ahaha, he's only a few inches higher than me i think 0__0. Actually, strangely no one was shouting his name. or any of the others' names (apparently the other guys also have their own fanbase, like H-san who seemed to be supported by this group beside me of sparkly cute girls and some obaachans XDDD). maybe it seemed impolite at that time at such a small venue..??? (really no idea on supposed decorum during these events, so i was just following along). Maybe also partly because all the guys, even their band at the back, performed the play very well that it seemed not right to support only one guy XDDD.

Thank you for bearing with me! I really wish for the DVD^__^ --- it's such a great show!
