HA, I just saw this after asking you about what happened. Could have just come read!
Meaning of life… speaking of which, are you familiar at all with Susan Wolf? (“Moral Saints” is her most famous essay probably… it’s de rigeur for intro to ethics courses). Anyway, she’s a philosophy prof at Chapel Hill, and she came and spoke at W&L when I was a sophomore. I’d just declared at that point and I got to eat lunch with her and then go to her lecture. Anyway, she lectured about “The Meanings of Lives”. Really worthwhile reading, if you get a chance it’s available at http://www.law.nyu.edu/clppt/program2003/readings/wolf.pdf. Deals with the issue very sensibly, I think.
I think we’re pretty much on the same page about all the relationship stuff.
