Many things have changed since my last entry on here, and time has flown by! It's already been over a month. Well, I'm now living in a place that's somehow very very different from what I'm used to, but at the same time it's pretty much the same life

1) cars. you live in one of the vanity capitals of the world (Miami Beach, FL being the mecca of egocentrism and extreme vanity). you said it yourself--you are able to ride your bike and get around without your car. naturally, the people who ARE driving are doing so to show off, not out of necessity. this is a very regional thing; places with subways/good public transit dont require cars, namely east coast metropolitan cities (suburbs being excluded). the opposite is true on the west coast, where there is little ability to ride your bike where you need to go due to the enormous size of the city in miles. where 1 in 150 people drive a car to show off their wealth and leisure, the rest of us do so to get to work, school, etc ( ... )

1- I don't live in Miami. SUVs are the most ridiculous and wasteful "vehicle" that could exist, and I don't think only FL has SUVs. I know that the north-east has more public transportation...just more than this, it doesn't take that much.
2- I live in the 4th football town of the US. The whole of the US academic world stresses the importance of sports though: sports don't exist at universities in Europe. If you have to pass a guy just because he's in a team, it sounds a little silly to me...but maybe not to everybody.
3- From what I heard, this is the best college in FL, and the smartest students of the state come here. Then there's a whole fan population that adds to that during game days.
I doubt that chain-stores would disappear if I visited some other state or place...chain-stores are the core of the US economic system...in other countries, you know the US has arrived when you see Mc Donald's & Co.

Anyway, I saw you're on the gainesvillerun community. If you want to run at some point, let me know. I'm just getting back into shape and at this point I'm running 4-6 miles...wait 6-10 km...at a 4-4:15 min/km pace.

thanks a lot for commenting!
Yes, I would really love to run! I'm afraid I'd be too slow for you though, even if you're getting back into shape! hehe
I've never reallu run on a regular basis (in Italy there's definitely not as many runners on the streets!), even though I've played sports all my life...and now I need to swim and run!
So I'll probably start by swimming and maybe later on run too...but if you're going to have a "soft" run please let me know! hehe 371.9849
