The theme that carried through the album is a struggle between "me" being a talented musician and "me" being a normal ordinary man. Shimura was attached to his hometown, Fujiyoshida Ciry in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan, where Mt. Fuji is.
That's why so many of his fans still visit the city to follow his footsteps.
We have surely lost a wonderful musician in Japanese music shene, but we also lost a pure-hearted lovely bloke who loved to make a joke with a cheeky smile.

Thanks!
I can sense the struggle so clearly even though I can't understand the lyrics. Dealing with a gift of that magnitude would not have been easy. Although I am yet to hear much of his work, I am so incredibly impressed. He was a genius, especially considering how young he was. Chronicle seems to me like a very mature and fully realized work of art.
I am interested to know more about his love of his hometown, and the spectacular Mt Fuji. An artist always needs to have very strong connections to nature. And I know Mt Fuji has a very special power all of it's own.
It's so hard to lose someone that special! I am so very sorry!

Oh and I have been slowly working my way through your wonderful blog posts. I loved what you said about Shimuras' purity and total dedication to his art. This is a very old fashioned quality that has been forgotten in the West, but I know you are right when you say, it is this that makes him so exceptional. I am very sad that he never got a chance to live longer and enjoy some of the life he sacrificed for us. Some people though, have a different destiny.
