Rose was running as fast as she could down the street, and when she stopped, she could barely breathe. She let out a slightly bitter laugh, though, and pulled something out of her pocket. It was by pure coincidence that Jack had been in the area of the blast. He'd been close enough, in fact, that had he been wearing his greatcoat at the moment it would have become nothing but a smothering pile of burnt fabric. Instead his shirt, and it had been a very nice shirt, had been partly burnt on one side, along with his arm and a chunk of his face.

Coming back to life among the blaze was painful, but it gave his system enough of an adrenaline kick to avoid any further damage. Running away from the flames, he looked back to see them engulf almost every building in sight.

The smoke and ash were thick enough that he almost missed her.

Rose sat down on the sidewalk, occasionally mumbling observations as she ran her scanner over her now flaming surroundings. "Oh, stop that," she smacked it on her thigh. "There were no humans there earlier, you said so yourself. And yes, I know the buildings are all on fire."

She smacked it a few more times, pressed a few more buttons, then let it scan the area again.

Jack was running now, feet pounding against the sidewalk in time with his heart. He couldn't really believe what he was seeing, but he couldn't force himself to look away either.

There was Rose, alive and real and human.

Rose looked up, hearing the sound of running and blinked. "Brilliant," she said, staring at Jack running toward her. "I'm hallucinating now. Still, though, I suppose it's not such a bad hallucination to have."
