Picture this. I'm eighteen. These days most of the people who don't know me very well think I'm in my early twenties. When they ask or happen to find out I'm eighteen and not twenty-three or twenty-four, they always laugh and go on about how surprised they are. Questions!
I've been going to more meetings again recently, and over all, my attitude toward AA has and is improving greatly. I've got some questions though. At this point, I'm more or less looking at them as probably being the kind of questions anyone at roughly the same place in sobriety that I am would also have.

I have gotten away from myself.
I know that terms of recovery this is supposed to be a good thing. I wonder about the way "self" is presented in many cases, as if there is something filthy and wrong about it. I believe there is some truth to the phrase "bondage of self", but I see this as essentially different than what in other circles of ( Read more... ) -
Them Bones
I walk to the bus stop. Wondering how far into the twenty minute window my daily bus seems to have, I light a cigarette. It's colder than I expected it to be and the short sleeved shirt I'm wearing isn't cutting it. A friend just posted this elsewhere, and I'm stealing it. It sounds really familiar, as if I've heard it before. The degree to which it does sound familiar is probably due the fact that if you just nailed down my actions and what I was saying, and discarded what I was thinking, it would fit perfectly.
