I pick up the bag worms and toss them in the creek. It's kind of a pity--they're pretty caterpillars in a way, but devastating to trees. I have no idea if I'm doing anything at all by chucking the loose ones, but I do it anyway. I saw three deer come down off the cut early yesterday morning, a doe and her two nearly-grown fawns, brown as shoes with faint spots still visible along their backs.  They browsed on weeds, but when they craned their necks towards the garden, I stepped out the door and they flicked their long tails and ran back uphill ( Read more... )
