As you write it, I think your justification is great, and the pairing could very well be a possibility.
I always notice the teasing between the pair too ie in Shindig when Jayne offers to chip in for the slinky dress and Jaynestown when Zoe teases him about being famous.
*grins* Thank you. I love their little banter. And how about in "Objects in Space" when they're all on the bridge and she's talking about River not hurting anyone. He's like "Butcher's knife!" And she just like ignores him and keeps talking. That always cracks me up.
I was on the fence but you pushed me off. You turned me, I'm seeing things differently and more clearly. eyes opened and all that jazz. I ma your childe. Teach me the ways of Zayne oh misstress!
Oh now my head is buzzing. I was watching the pilot today and when Jayne leaves the table guess who's watching after him? check out her expression it's kind of sad. And I don't think sad for Kaylee (evern though her expression killed me). Thanks now I'm gonna be looking for the Zayne everytime I watch the show. lol
It's fun to see if maybe they were being set up should anything have happened to Wash. I prefer to see it as undertones of what might have been in different circumstances. But I think that Zoe/Jayne works best, well in my opinion, because he'd be the one to help her through losing Wash. I can picture him taking care of her, looking out for her, ya know? Could just be me.
*yawns* Okay, I'm slightly out of it, so forgive me if that was slightly ramble-y... Need more sleep.
In the pilot Serenity, when they've landed and are about to go find Badger: Look behind Mal and Kaylee while they're standing at the port computer thingy, and it looks like Zoe and Jayne are laughing about something good-naturedly.
It was when I noticed this that I began to believe that Jayne and Zoe probably understand one another pretty well, and can enjoy each other's company. Then all the aforementioned banter just encouraged me. They'd be good friends at least, I think.

But I'll say it again:
Jayne/EVERYONE! Hee!
And I will read your 7 sin fics when i am done with mine. I don't want to be unduly influenced since mine are Jayne/River (only one is sex).
